Quote: Marc P @ July 14 2012, 10:22 PM BSTI can understand why people get offended for being called racist. John Terry presumably felt the same. .
Sure, though I was never talking about the case in and of itself, just the idea of whether the term black c**t, thrown in anger, as an insult, is or is not racist.
Surely we can agree the statement its self is racist.
But its the motivation that counts more?
Although say someone truly believes black people are evil, should that be respected like any other faith belief?
I know that Matthew but that was the whole point of what I and GT were talking about. I guess you have to define the issue of racism and what the meanings of the words are to then extrapolate as it were. And again sorry for being twattish if I was, I think racism does exist in this country at all levels and I am no fan of any bullying of any sort - which I think racism is - and if you look at it in that way, which I guess I was, I can't see fit as f**k multi millionaires really bullying one another, as in this case, but he was, probably, a twat and should have been fined to buggery and pilloried by the FA etc for being a knob - but still not sure about the racism issue. I think he was squaring up to what he perceived to be an equal - if he didn't in terms of race then you are probably right. And anyway, and far more importantly, these guys are playing with the wrong shaped ball so what do you expect?
Racism is diferent to other abuses.
And I get more than a little tired of hearing it's slightly nauseous defence.
It means if you're in a minority, you're made to feel more excluded and diferent. We are so far from the days of monkey noises and bananas thrown on the pitch.
Butthat's because it is unacceptable. Legally, professionally and morally.
Butthat's not to say the pendulum can't swing back.
I agree the court is not a place for this case. But it must be made clear that these sentiments are not acceptable and are worse than regular abuses.
I'd like to think the FA took this seriously and I dunno gave JT detention after matches writing on a black board "i must not be racist|"

Sometimes it is worse... sometimes it is a lot lot better!
The thing is - how would you even think such a thing about another human being ( unless it was Tony Blair/Margaret Thatcher and substitute the word 'white')? Or am I naive?
