British Comedy Guide

Hello radio comedy fans?

Hi there,

I'm currently working on a thesis tangentially about radio comedy.
If anyone has any favourite funny lines from radio comedies (from any era) I'd love to hear them?
Hope to 'meet' some interesting guys who have my love of comedy here.

Nice to meet you, to meet you nice....

My favourite lines tend to be off-the-cuff moments on The News Quiz, generally from Jeremy Hardy. Wish I could remember some examples for you!

I think Bigipedia is brilliant and I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.
I know Nick Doody, who created it - apparently loosely, series one is Orwell and series two is Huxley...

How fascinating. Far beyond my plebeian mind to note such a thing!

How about Bleak Expectations?

"I'm a Cockney to my cor!, and an east-ender to my blimey!"

Better on radio than the TV version IMHO.

I thoroughly recommend Listen Against for lines like this:

ALICE ARNOLD: Complaints about the box set of I, Claudius.
LISTENER: I bought I, Claudius because it has the prefix 'I'. Naturally, I assumed that I'd be able to fully interact with it just as I can with other things with that have the prefix 'I', like an ipod or the iPlayer or eye surgery.

Any particular style of radio comedy - sketch, panel, sitcom?

Most of the lines I can think of at the moment are just jokes (Milton Jones ones mostly and I couldn't reliably state from which of his many series they were from).

Museum of Everything always had me laughing. I particularly enjoyed a joke that I'm going to ruin with a bad retelling...

"Please keep your arms and legs inside the cars at all times or they will be torn off. It seems harsh but that's the rule."

Museum of Everything was great. Pretty sure they also had a line like:

'All unattended children will be exploded'

Not to mention everything badgerland.
