John Terry Page 3

I haven't followed the case at all, but 'JT' gets defended by his mates far too much when you consider the crap things he's done.

He's an utter scumbag.

He might not be racist, if he said it he might have just said it because he knows that's the quickest way to rile him, to use a racist phrase. But I think the idea that he said it just because it's this persons most obvious physical feature is not at all likely. The other things you mention can be looked at as in some way 'physical defects'; being short, or having a huge nose; being black is not a physical defect.

I suppose - but being ginger haired isn't a physical defect either, and I think it looks quite attractive on Nicole Kidman for example.

Oh c'mon. I don't have to hate someone to hit them with a brick.

JT used a racist mode of language irrespective of his personal views.
This maybe due to poverty of imagination and paucity of intellect.

But the result remains the same.

Well the results aren't in yet. They didn't play very well in the Euros so I imagine he will be found guilty.

Snidey snidey pants

So, just to check, this is all about whether it should have gone to court etc. No one here is defending John Terry and saying he's probably a lovely chap, right?

Otherwise I may have to check out of the human race.

LOL. We don't have the entire conversation, but no it shouldn't have gone to court - he should have had the shit fined out of him by the FA or whoever and done community service with the Hoxton boys!

But it is achingly depressing, that these child men. With sexual practices out of a fetid teenage masturbators imagination, their swearing, ignorance and petulance are seen as such role models.

And the spitting and nose emptying, don't forget those . . .

Being a QPR fan I am obviously biaised and will not be drawn on my opion of that racist scum bucket Terry, so don't even try.

It's only really made it to court cos it was a way to delay it until after the Euros. If it had stayed with the FA they'd have had to deal with it sooner and potentially dropped Terry from the squad. Seeing as we are brass it was a weird decision but hey ho.

He is a fair disgrace of a bloke but I don't care about this incident at all

John Terry is a terrible man and plays for Chelsea for f**ksake. I'd love to see the whole first eleven in prison, not to mention the owner, but he is clearly not a racist. Aside from the obvious difficulty of a racist captaining a team with a majority of foreign and black players, I've watched the game and he had his arms around one of the black players at the end.

The thread is not really about him, it about whether people would be complicit in this very dangerous policing of thought and language that is being ushered into our society under the guise of tackling racism, and based on a few replies here the answer is yes.

And based on all of the replies?

It's a negative inference by drawing attention to his skin colour in a purely negative way

e.g.

"you're black and a c**t" the implication makes him more of a c**t.

It's only racist if he's a c**t because he's black. The sentence says he's a c**t who is black.

The interpretation of the sentence turns on how positive you think the word 'black' is. The sentence 'you handsome c**t' is not an insult at all.

The only way you can see Terry's remark as racist is to assume the opinions of a racist and think being black is a bad thing.

This is so obvious it doesn't even need pointing out. But there it is anyway for anyone who honestly doesn't understand.

Yeah, of course.

GT I have said all this! ;)
