OFO

For what it's worth most of the stuff in critique is shit. Because people who've mastered their art no longer require so much feedback. Or usually have support from fellow professionals.

I agree with that. I honestly didn't come here for critique, but for votes.
Lets not get into why no one on here would vote for them. It's been beat to death.

In all fairness you posted it in the critique forum - which to most people on here is a open door for offering critical feedback

Where as showcase is where you post stuff you feel is great and just needs a wider showcase (albeit I'm a sucker for punishment so have at me!)

That Seldom Differs thing should be in Showcase then. It's criminal that it only has 14 replies...

I didn't get any votes either Justin.

When's the next subject?

The way of the board seems to be that a throw-away, unfunny pun from someone in the "1000+ posts club" is appreciated by the other members of the "1000+ posts club", but a newbie uttering such a line is thrown to the wolves. Now you have "lost" the audience in the forum, it's even more hopeless. If you, and one of the forum's elder statesmen, wrote the EXACT same line on here, there's no way the reaction would be the same. It's the lay of the land here, I'm afraid.

We throw newbies to the lions, not wolves. They're a more efficient and sustainable idiom.

Wolves also make a racket at night.

This is me doing stand up: here

Dan I get the feeling you feel under fire and thus have the need to justify yourself (my personal reading of the situation). I've been doing stand up for about two years. I accept I'm not as good as some comics but am better than others, when I submit something for crtique-ing I accept sometimes people won't like it yet I know they won't judge me on a couple of damp squibs. I also go in looking for the negative feedback as it's the most helpful. Yeah the things people write can feel like an attack, but remember it's hard to convey context in text form and so often aren't.

That's my advice, I'll watch the video and provide an opinion/feedback after work.

There's only one person I know who is awesome at explaining things! :)

Ask them then. I'm still sulking.

Yup, it's a massive conspiracy, how people who have known each other's style of writing over long periods can distinguish whether it was meant to be taken seriously or not, rather than when someone doesn't bother introducing themselves, getting involved in threads, and doesn't even want feedback but votes, like we're his bitches.

Justin Dan: Nowt wrong with posting and asking for votes, but just as you claim that American and British humour/appreciation of your jokes are apparently very different, so it seems is the approach to requesting that people do you favours. In fairness, pretty much all the jokes from all the entrants on the site you linked to were really, really bad. And I thought there was potential in your cat cops one, it could be rather sweet with the right persona behind it and material around it.

I thought that was just pouting!

I can pose ludicrously and sulk at the same time. Woman of many talents, me

Thanks for the feed back, but this forum has become far too much of a distraction for me. Later, guys.
