'if only you could dear,' followed by a pat on the head and a 'lovely' smile.
Not sure if she thought I couldn't understand more than 5 words or if she was too choked up with sympathy to finish the sentence.
Maybe she wanted you to make this world a better place.

Indeed.
My Dad used to say 'my giddy aunt' a lot, you don't seem to hear it much nowadays.

I will try, I promise I will try really hard. Then I might get some bonus pats and squeezes and whole sentence.

Heh. I've only heard one person say it (my old HE teacher) and I quite like to bring it out on special occasions.

My Dad used to say that too. Those were the days when Gay was a girls name as well as Fanny.
Dad also used to call people soppy dates. I thought these were regional sayings but it seems not.)

Ha ha, this is bringing back some happy memories. I think an 'apeth was half a penny, meaning half-wit, but in a sort of affectionate way.
Oh I seeee. That does make more sense than the ape related rubbish my brain was coming up with.
My brain is exhausted after finally catching up on the 3 weeks posts I've missed! From all of which I've gleaned that AJGO and Natwicks are about to become millionaires and pay for us all to go to a meet-up in the Bahamas, and Scats has had a brilliant degree result. Congrats to all - hope you don't mind sharing these ...
Will now resume my fox-stalking.
Yikes, I'm blinded keewik.

I would have thought your poor fox had starved to death, having forgotten how to hunt and desiring only tinned salmon.
