Things I just don't "get". Page 8

Have you tried Terry Pratchett?
He is a comic/parody fantasy writer. He's really easy to read and has a great nack of keeping you turning those pages. He's also a funny guy and very imaginative.

Seriously, recommend it.

Laughing out loud I like the fact that EMS says he doesn't like reading then Aaron gives the longest reply in the history of the internet

:D :D :D

Really made me laugh.

I much prefer watching a film or something.

I'd always watch TV. Probably why it takes me so long to get through books.

Anyway, I'm saving trees by not reading books.

If only most of today's "musicians" would save plastic by not making music.

Shakespeare etc rubbish

:O

Shakespeare...
...rubbish?!

I think people that don't enjoy reading (and I'm talking more about EMs here) often have a relatively short attention-span. Certainly all the people I've come across who don't enjoy books are forever diddling with the remote control, playing with their mobiles etc. Is there anything wrong with that? Yes, shoot them all.

That is correct.

Yep, I pick up books and just fade out as I'm reading them.

Some Shakespeare is rubbish. Some is great. Another reason to think he had a bunch of writers doing all his work for him!
Or he was bipolar.

Sorry for sounding rude about people who don't like reading books. I'm an arse.

But, do you like reading scripts? It just seems a bit random to say 'I don't like books'. It's not the reading you hate, cos you're reading right now. So is it the turning of pages?

Seeing Terry Pratchett's name earlier reminded me that someone once said (years ago) that my work reminded them of his. Can't see it myself but there's worse comparisons to have even if the judgment was only based on fantasy and vast quantities of alcohol.

I love reading...whilst I was travelling for a year 06-07 I read 32 books. Travelling was the best way to pick up books you'd never normally read. You meet someone and do a "book swap", if you've both finished the book you were reading. I read some of the best (and worst) books I have ever read, and really enjoyed reading ones I would never have picked up normally!

Well obviously if I don’t enjoy doing something, then I’m not going to be giving it my full undivided attention, am I?

My “Field of Excellence” is Art and Design. Books do nothing to me. Am I a thick, uneducated chav? Not really. I can match all those qualifications you have rather pompously listed in your profile.

I have a few books. Books on artists, graphic design, films, photography. But in terms of sitting in a darkened room and “devouring” a novel for hours?....gimme a break.

i know it is a question of taste but i'm firmly in the "Shakespeare is rubbish" camp. tedious man.
some books are great. some are crap.
some films are great. some are crap.
some tv is great. etc etc
