Collars on cats can be dangerous

Cats get their back legs in all sorts of positions to scratch their necks, cheeks, ears etc

They can get their claws stuck in the collar whilst doing this and do themselves horrific injuries

You can get snag free ones nowerdays with little elastic bits on. They still can't just paw them off, but if it gets caught on anything, it gives them enough slack to get free easily enough. Also pressure release catches that pop if the cat's entire weight is behind it.

Hmm Sootyj new rom com idea.

"Your cats got mail"

A friendless loser and a weird cat lady. Fall madly in love by passing messages attached to the collar of the cat they inadvertently share.

That would make a nice short. I'd watch it.

Then I might write it.

God knows I havent written anything worthwhile for far too long

Speaking of cats, what should I do with this (supposedly stray) one that turns up every night for some food?

It has no collar, there are no signs of it not being fed, the skin and fur are in great condition. I don't think it sleeps rough. I've asked around here and no one seems to know of it missing, nor do the vets or the pet shops.

The Child wants it and even the dog likes it (had a sniff of the cat's arse and wagged her tail).

Shall I keep it for good?

I understand that cats quite often adopt two homes.
Bit like those bigamous husbands that have two wives & two homes.

Since when did we start calling the egg filling part of quiche a custard?

I heard it for the first time last week and then again this morning. On two different programs by two different people. So about a week then?

I was really interested thinking they were going to do something Heston like but they just made regular old quiche.

It is technically a custard, because it's dairy thickened with egg. It's just not the sort of custard you have on a trifle, which is usually cheap cornflour custard (with sugar).

Since the middle ages. OK, it's not a great punchline, but I didn't want to resort to using an egg-based pun.

Does that make an omlette a custard?

Have been thinking the same thing. Whenever I've made a quiche the eggy part of the filling turns out more like dense scramble than a custard.

With a custard, you allow the eggs to justset, but not cook, otherwise it does turns into an omlette, or scrambled eggs.

The trick is to take it out the oven when it's still a bit wobbly, and allow the heat in the quiche to finish the job. I got it wrong the first few times, too.
