It would have been a better ending if the nurse had turned the muggers in to the police herself, and we saw her in the final scene going "mwa ha ha ha!"
I've just seen... Page 282
Quote: Nat Wicks @ June 25 2012, 12:14 AM BSTAdmittedly, I guessed every part of the story before it happened, but it totally fulfilled my need for aliens and explosions. Plus what more do you expect from a movie named Cowboys and Aliens?
A film starring Han Solo, James Bond and directed by the bloke who made Iron Man, I really did expect a lot more then an utterly predictable and badly written CGI snooze-fest.
The story made absolutely no sense whatsover, every single thing was sign posted, all of the characters were two dimensional, the number of sheer coincidences was astronomical and the whole thing left me with a feeling of being ripped off and insulted.
I could go on and point out every little flaw of this movie, but it would take most of the next year to do so.
Yes, it had lots of explosions and cowboys and aliens, but that for me does not make it 'Bloody Good'. Just the sequence involving Daniel Craig rescuing weird lady face on top of the little alien craft and then crashing into the only bit of water for a thousand miles around makes me angry enough to bleed out my eyes.
An over reaction? Yes, most likely. But it did piss me off.
For what it's worth, I thought the performances were good.
To be honest, it lived up to precisely what I expected it to be. Spielberg as exec prod should have been a warning.
Sam Rockwell was a thoroughly wasted casting. What a nothing character.
I need some more sci-fi movies to watch. I'm running out. Haven't watched Running Man in a while, so might do that tonight. I'm in the market for space based sci-fi, but without the thriller element, so automatically excludes Alien(s)(3), Event Horizon and others of a similar. I prefer to avoid pre70s (I have to be in the right kind of mood). I fear I have seen too many, and am running out of obvious ideas. Answers on a postcard, please!
Quote: zooo @ June 24 2012, 11:43 PM BSTI am currently watching Attack The Block.
It is a bit weird that they have made the protagonists horrible little c**ts with no redeeming features. But I'm sticking with it.
God how I hated that film.
Lousy effects, idiotic plot and not a scintilla of wit.
And I'm bone, completely, entirely skull achingly sick of this f**king UK obsession with glorifying criminal scum bags.
Kidulthood, Scat, any shite with Mickey the 'tard out of Dr Who.
Showing how their misunderstood, decent types, who are good to each other and basically just let down by society.
They are scum who should be in a uniform, prison or a coffin.

Good slightly odd ball scifi films

He's made a new one that is just a feelgood movie about athletics. But yes, I know what you mean I think.
Of course, it's always gone on, whether it be mafia films, or any crime films really. They're all arseholes.

I can only think of one modern-ish film that fits the bill - Moon.
If you want a good sci-fi weepy then I can thoroughly recommend 'Silent Running' - it is 1970s but not horribly so and it will leave you in floods of tears at the end.

Attack the Block didn't really make much attempt to justify the actions of the muggers. It would have been easy enough to do, like by having them forced into crime by the big evil drug-dealer. But instead, we still think they're scum at the end of the film.
It was an indifferent film at best, and surprisingly unfunny. How could they get so few laughs out of stoned people riding BMXs? And all the film's parodies and homages just felt like clichés.
Hopefully Cornish will find his own voice in the future.

Thanks. Noted for further exploration!

Saw Moon recently. Loved it. I don't particularly want weepy, just not shityourpantsscaryaliens. Action sci-fi, yeah.
I will put that other suggestion on my list, ta!

I liked 'The Fifth Element'.

As long as I never hear the phrase 'Those bare aliens are hench blood' ever again, then I will support him in his endeavours.

I've seen that way too many times. Lovely Lielu.
I watched 'Australia' when it was on the other day; I know it's supposed to be cack, but I quite enjoyed it. Baz Luhrman has yet to make a film I didn't enjoy. (Not that this was as good as Stictly or Moulin Rouge)

I imagine you've seen the most recent Star Trek film, as that would prob fit the bill.
