I think the people reading it are just enjoying a bit of socially acceptable (since it's so famous at the moment) rude jiggery pokery. I don't think it's anything to get too worried about. It'll all blow over!
Especially once they all realise that stuff is available free all over the internet. The chumps.

I really hope so. It's these awful 'keep still and obey Mr Grey' pictures appearing on Facebook which have tipped me over the edge I think. I probably shouldn't get myself so worked up.

Good luck with that. Is it more or less outrageous for women to get turned on by a dominant man with a big woo-woo then say a vampire, a time traveller or an emotionless detective?

What is the acceptable face of sexual fantasy? It's obviously popular with the ladies, why are you so against them having a dabble in erotic fiction? Some women have rape fantasies, which I find much more disturbing then a bit of slap and tickle (and possible golden showers - dunno, haven't read it, do they wee on each other?).

See previous re the difference between sexual fantasies and relationship fantasies.

Are they like Keep Calm and Carry On? If so, then you should get angry, as that meme is well stale.

Don't get me started on Twilight.

relationship fantasies.

WTF? Relationship fantasies? You women are all sick in the head.

I suspect the male submissive thing is more complicate than you assume, there seems to be more housework than actual sex involved. For both genders the core fantasy seems to be the surrender of power, of freedom through escaping responsibility.

Nothing wrong with a time traveller! He never subjugates women.

Not the the general masses. They're months behind the internet elite.

Word. Not that I've read it.

It is probably just as harmless as everyone keeps insisting. I should probably stop projecting my own agenda onto it.

His 'assistants'? What happens in the Tardis stays in the Tardis.

He did when it was Tom Baker, he even told his female assistants to shut up and everything.

Unlike now, when everything has to stop and huggles are given out whenever Amy Pond gets a period cramp. Bah!

I personally think that the other problem is how popular it's become. There's not a problem with women or men fantasizing about these kind of relationships, with a limit. But once it becomes this mainstream, I (perhaps overthinkingly) worry that many women might end up in situations like this just because they've been popularised and glamourised, not because they desired them beforehand. Conversely, some men might think that this book is all women's fantasy, and take it as carte blanche to treat women in the same way that Mr. Grey does. I think it's potentially slightly dangerous to make it such a mainstream thing for women to submit to men because it's popularly "sexy", rather than doing hat they actually want to.

RTD, with his will they won't story lines, and Moffatt, which his let's give her a boyfriend so it is all platonic, never understood that all male viewers had always assumed that in the privacy of the Tardis the Doctor was shagging his assistants senseless.

Fantasy is by definition the opposite of reality. Who dreams of eating a burger whilst eating a burger? So Grey worshippers are pretty much by definition incontrol women fantasising about the loss of it. In the same way the stereotypical male submissive is a hi court judge or general. A better. Ecample would be Snog Marry Avoid where supposed male lust objects are roundly rejected.

It will certainly be ending up in a lot of women's studies/English dissertations over the next couple of years, that's for sure!

Laughing out loud I volunteer to piss on RCS head if I make it to the 'Meet' -feel free to photograph and post.

Yes as pointed out with chat earlier
'power' in 'relationships' is very deep and changeable?

That's because most men are base morons.
