£30 million on two ships... what a waste of money. Spend it on the health service, give it to the police, don't spend it on two ships that don't even sail, I've never heard of either ships and can't imagine them making it back. Surely there are better ways to spend money. Discuss.
£30 million of f*cking ships?
It was actually £52 million...and the subject of a script I sent to News Revue this morning.
I will give it time to see if gets used and then post afterwards.
£30 million for any public organisation will be spent on some quango advising that too much money is being wasted on administration!
These ships are part of our national history and the money (from the lottery fund, not public coffers) is really just a drop in the ocean (sorry!).
The Cutty Sark did what, ship tea? I saw a PG Tips lorry go past the other day is that going to get £9 million thrown at it! If a families house burns down the government wont pay to get it restored, why should they pay for an old ship that was full of tea but doesn't float any more. It's rubbish, spend it on better things, things we need.
I fully support the restoration of the Cutty Sark.
If you want to talk about wasting public money, then let's debate the Olympics.

OK, I think they should show more Women's Beach Volleyball.

I think that's more accurate, no?
Or...
"She (The Cutty Sark) is the world’s sole surviving extreme clipper, a type of vessel that was the highest development of the fast commercial sailing ship, with the majority of her hull fabric surviving from her original construction".
Worth preserving then, I'd say.
How do you f**k a ship?
I could have built them a paper boat for 5p

Indeed. And as a student at the University of Greenwich, right next door, she holds a particular place in my heart. So to speak.

Through the port hole?

It's not like nurses can actually do their job though, is it? Hindered by targets and initiatives handed to them from top-down governmental ministers with no understanding of health care whatsoever.
They can give '£anger inducing amount' to ships but not give public sector workers an independantly decided pay rise. Hows that going to affect the RPI? (Thats not a serious comment btw )
The Duke of Edinburgh should bloody pay for it after all he has detailed knowledge of maintaining old wrecks. And he is the bloody chairman of the Cutty Sark Mutual Apprecaition of Tea Society or something like that.
