I just looked at the cast and wouldn't say that they are representative of the population as a whole. There are always a few character actors and "unique" faces in the mix, but the entertainment industry is chock full of pretty people. Radio is the only refuge for the uglies.

There's not a person standing who hasn't said something nasty about someone behind their backs. It may not be a redeeming quality, but people are unique individuals with their own opinions and it's our right to speak them freely. What makes society possible is that most of us are courteous enough that we won't say such nasty things to a person's face.

The fact that nice publicity photographs of her exist doesn't mean that she is presenting herself as a sexual object to be judged, it means that programmes need to be promoted by showing off their stars. She probably doesn't have a choice.
The fact that she's being paid through a sort of tax doesn't make her public property anymore than it makes teachers, doctors or librarians public property to be ogled and degraded.
