I think this is a truly difficult subject. She's not on TV, papers, etc. for how she looks, judging her on her looks is harsh. However we should be able to hold an opinion if the opportunity arises - it's still a democracy, right?
I think it's a shame this is the culture of showing and sharing everything, "celebrities" don't seem to be entitled to privacy.
I'll add wood to the fire and say if that photo was mine I'd not like it being shown. I'm not bitching on a sista's body and looks, I'm far from perfect.

But I do find these threads incredibly sexist - if you dare criticise any woman's physical attractiveness, especially those off the telly, the chicks all close ranks and lambast you for it.

I disagree. I doubt she would have landed on television if she were ugly. I've never seen the show, but a quick Google search returns many professionally shot/retouched photos with perfect hair and makeup and glamorous outfits. And the fact that she's paid with taxpayers' money means that she's fair game for any and all criticism. That said, I'm confident that RC has enough class that he wouldn't call her a fat cow to her face.

As RC said, EastEnders doesn't seem to make casting decisions based on attractiveness. There are plenty of people on TV (at least on British TV) who don't satisfy the generic ideals of attractiveness.

The fact that nice publicity photographs of her exist doesn't mean that she is presenting herself as a sexual object to be judged, it means that programmes need to be promoted by showing off their stars. She probably doesn't have a choice.

The fact that she's being paid through a sort of tax doesn't make her public property anymore than it makes teachers, doctors or librarians public property to be ogled and degraded.

Insulting people behing their backs on a public forum is not much classier than doing it to their faces.
