You could buy any brand and then use Google Docs or MSN Smartdrive Docs (whatever it's called). I don't think there is a Word app. I could be wrong though, I know nothing about Windows Mobile.
If you have no interest in technology and want to mainly use it for word processing then the last thing you probably want is a touch screen. Short texts write like a breeze but anything longer, well you've seen sooty's posts on here
I really like my mobile network provider GiffGaff. No min contract, well no contract at all. I'm on the £10p/m package which gets me 250mins talk time, unlimited texts and truly unlimited internet. I love the unlimited internet without being tied to a contract. The only thing is it's a pay as you go only company, so they have no phone deals. You would have to buy one yourself. I was lucky enough to catch a deal on a smartphone down from £300 to £120. Wish I had bought more and sold them on after the deal ended >_<
Anyway, yeah. You could probably pick up a cheap Blackberry and find that you're happy with it.
