ANORAK ALERT!!!!!!!!!!
If I knew how to post pictures I'd show you.
Basically the white diagonal is thicker in the top corner next to the flag staff.
It was a subtle sign that all was not right if it was flown the other way up.
"the snow rests on the bough" was what I was taught. The thick white line should be on top of the red stripe in the top section next to the pole.
Once you know the difference it will drive you mad whenever it's wrong!
Thick white bit at the top left hand side.
Ah...so many boring people all in one place!

It's all part of doing things right and being British.
Johnny Foreigners hang their flags out with the washing.

Everything done in my own little way.

One time when I was in the USA, I visited a pseudo "British Pub" and they had wallpapered the loos with the Union Jack pattern.
How does ;snow' stick underneath- not arsed anyroad.
I never realized that the lines weren't centered and symmetrical. Huh.
This is what makes the forum a haven. Lots of similarly obsessive people. I' ve been driving people mad telling them that their flags are the wrong way round. Sometimes when there's been nothing wrong. Just to see the look of confusion as they try to work out which way is up.
OH OK!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that flag you've posted is slightly wrong. I mean, it is the right way up but on the right hand side, both the thick white bits should be at the bottom, not top.
See Lee's link and example.
