Someone on this forum saying the Boosh is no good is a bit like a tramp telling you Dom perignon is not as good as special brew.
Can't wait for series 3 of The Mighty Boosh? Page 22
I want an mp3 of future sailors
People do seem deeply divided over the Boosh. Seems like it's the marmite of comedy.
Definitely safe to say it's a 'cult' thing.
I'm really quite dissapointed at some of the reactions to the show while others agree that it's one of the greatest things since the Young Ones.
Music nerds tend to appreciate it more.
I have found that when you play it to some people (especially if you start from the begening) people don't like it until they've seen at least 4 episodes or so before they can tell they love it.
For me, personally, anyone who mentions Gary Numan at least four times in half an hour has my attention.

Wait are you saying people on this forum are the british comedy appreciating equivelant of tramps?
I think he's saying that considering the talent (or rather lack thereof) of some of the writers here, it's a bit rich for them to criticise something as successful as The Mighty Boosh.
Well I don't know if success is a factor. Popularity rarely represents quality.
However the Boosh is wonderful and it's success is a complete mystery given its abstract and esoteric nature.

Define quality. It's all relative to the style of comedy (you can't really compare the farce of something like 'Allo 'Allo!, for example, to the Boosh fairly), and to the audience. No matter what people here think of Two Pints, it is "quality" because it's so successful with its target audience. Contrary to popular opinion, a programme doesn't have to push boundaries or be particularly clever in order to be high quality. It just has to be popular with the group it's aimed at, and to some extent in the format, style and genre it's presented.
I suppose. Much in the same way 'Little Britain' isn't really all that funny once you've experienced 'League of Gentlmen' and the 'Fast Show' but people watch it anyway, probably just for Tom Baker.
Gosh he's dreamy.
(I know everyone loves it but seriously... )

Out of interest, how many writers are on this forum? I do write a bit of comedy and I do (with some friends) have some Youtube-related projects coming up and possibly an online comedy show (most likely to be a news and current affairs spoof, as that is more of my fortay). But because I've studied music production, I'm looking forward to doing the soundtrack as well
I watch A LOT of television and that includes A LOT of comedy, so I guess that helps too
How good a writer am I? Well, I'm sure you'll find out in due course!
I get a lot of time off work as I'm just a supply worker for Network Rail at the moment, which gives me plenty of spare time to do other things, hence my decision to do a show on Youtube.
About 98% of active, posting members are writers, unfortunately, with varying degrees of seriousness and success.
P.S. Was it you turning up to work drunk and delaying the reopening of the West Coast Main Line?
(Y'know, honestly, I actually thought of you when I first heard about that. Haha.)
I suppose technically I'm a comedy writer a bit too.
I used to host a show in which there was a segment in which I played God in different interpretations each week in which I spouted off rants about this an that, that people seemed to find funny. Through sponsership I was payed in alcohol though (at the time I was happy with this arrangement).
Working on a cartoon, and assisting script writing for a feature length comedy.

Ha ha, no it wasn't me! What a total farce it was though!
It's good to know that there's so many writers here, although I'm quite new to it myself. We now have a title for our online comedy show - "Win or News". The scripting for it is going well, and we have some very funny ideas. There's a particular section of the first proposed episode where "Chaos has errupted in Corby", although it is never stated why there's chaos, you never know who or what caused it, and you never know the degree of it! That particular bit is a parody of such instances where a news team have gone out to show footage of a bad event or crime, but know nothing about it, simply that it's causing chaos for reasons beyond their knowledge.
We're trying to intersperse the show with other television elements, and that will include a spoof of the BBC Learning Zone (which we've done a heck of a lot of research into, and have found that it's screaming out to be parodied), a weather report which tells you the forecast for obscure and unimportant locations in the UK (usually places that nobody has heard of) and a news reporter who's had to start presenting his section in his own living room, due to cut backs - "A man has been shot dead in.....yes, I'll have two sugars in mine please"
I've tried watching MB a couple of times and just couldn't get into it, I don't know why. I was forcing myself to like it much as I did with League of Gentlemen but it just didn't work at a level that inspired me to tune in every week..
On both counts I could acknowledge funny scenes but some of it was just tooo wierd for my taste.
However...
I came into an episode of MB half way through last night and laughed out loud several times in quick succession. This tells me that I ought to give this another go. I like ridiculous comedy but nothing too dark because at the end of the day I want to laugh.
Steptoe and the Office seem to have got the balance right but MB and LOG are quite disturbing in places. Dark is OK but I don't want to be 'troubled' in my viewing.
I think me being a "Music Nerd" played a big part in me liking the show. I've spent many days digging through the racks of second-hand record shops, and many nights in clubs, filled with trendy Vince Noir-types. By the way, speaking of Vince, he lost some serious cool points, back in series 2 (I think), when he slagged off the mighty music genre that is FUNK. I got the impression that his idea of Funk was Level 42, rather than classic shit, like James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, Kool and the Gang (before they watered their sound down in the '80s, of course), The Meters, Mandrill, etc, etc, etc.
I love this show, but I have yet to meet someone in flesh and blood who could sit threw an entire episode (keep in mind the show does not air in Canada). I loved Monty Python growing up because nothing else (until the Simpsons) was so spontaneous and outrageous. In general it defined my sense of humor early in life so watching something like the Mighty Boosh is a blast from the past for me. Pushing the boundaries of normality to me is grand because even when I'm watching a not so funny episode of The Might Boosh I still have a big stupid grin on my face. I wish they would pick this show up in North America.
They have it on BBC America in the States I think.
