Writing a Pitch

Hi everybody,

I've been around here for ages, peeking in and out of threads but never really taken part. But now I need advice.....

I've been asked by the BBC to write a pilot and a 13 episode pitch about my book.

Any hints and tips to writing a good pitch?

Hints

1 Ask someone like Anorak for some more professional advice.
2 Stick to one or 2 pages
3 Keep episode intros brief
4 Have a clear picture who you want playing roles
5 Be clear if its sitcom or dramedy

6 Hire me as a cowriter (I am cheap, in the good sense)

Ooh, congrats!

Try to find the right line between presenting it professionally and still considering it part of your ongoing presentation of the piece itself, i.e. write a concise pitch that reflects the style of the actual project.

Yeah but you're cheap like you took that blue carrier bag plastic and put it in cigarettes that you sold down Holloway road.

Definitely don't be too informal, this is the business part- but don't consider it too separate from how you're trying to represent yourself and sell your writing.

Also, treat it like you would your episode. Do a story arch in miniature so you don't end up repeating yourself. Good luck!

How did the BBC come about asking you to write a pitch? And are they paying you to write a pilot?
