This would have been so much easier if Zimmerman was proper white, but because he's from a Hispanic background, I'm really not sure who to root for in this brown on brown conflict.
Oh who am I kidding, both the black and Hispanic communities will riot against whitey. They know the true meaning of racial harmony.

After the recent London Riots, even some of the most softy, liberal types in Britain suddenly became the most horrible hate mongers for a few weeks. So if I were Mitt Romney, I'd pray for a full on race riot, hopefully involving the deaths of some innocent white people. The electorate will go crazy and the Republicans will be back in office.

Hate crime seems an interesting term. I mean I think you'd be hard pushed to prove George Zimmerman hated black people. His friends were black, hell he was part black.
You could probably prove other negative emotions; suspicion, contempt or even embarrassment of black people. You could suggest that's why he put himself in a needlessly dangerous situation. That could have lead to his death and in the end lead to Crayon's death.
The problem then is you'd have to reverse it. Do black teenagers burgle gated white communities, not because they hate their owners? But because they despise them for a perceived over privilege or unwillingness to defend their property? Do kebab shop owners in the UK groom abandoned white girls not because they hate them, but because they view their families as having inferior respect or homogeny?
Of course all crime is a minority thing, a small minority thing. But it follows patterns. And using a word as shrill as hate seems utterly unhelpful. And one of those times the courts and governments seemed determined to make an idiot of the law.
Unless he was overheard to be makeing racial slurs while attacking the boy or at some point in the past, how can they prove it to be racialy motivated attack?
The case I think is;
1 Zimmerman spots black kid, assumes he's a crook because he's black.
2 Follows kid and confronts him again because he is black.
3 Kid gets killed.
Basically he got in the situation which lead to the fatal confrontation because of his hatefilled attitudes.
Which is embarassingly stupid place for any law enforcement officer to be prosecuting.
