Don't get Mrs. Brown's Boys Page 2

Mate! Wave Royal Bodyguard! From the same team that comissioned My Hero, the latest few series of My Family (Kris Marshall's departure being the start of that), Cancelled After You've Gone ?

Genuinely think the BBC has lost its comedy compass Eh?

England Scotland

Oh yeah just like the Gran in Catherine Tate, but Tate did it so much better.

Grandma's House, Rev, still some life.

I can understand how Mrs. Brown appeals to quite a large number of people.
If not me.

But Royal Bodyguard, why?

But Royal Bodyguard, why?

Great fun silly comedy. Why not?

Sod it! Can someone explain to me how I quote just part of someone's post?

Father Ted has one subtle difference, it was funny. And from the get go. If that grey haired bloke hadn't died they would probably still be making them.

Press the quote button, and then go inside the quote and delete the bits you don't want. (Making sure not to delete the quote tags.)

Nah, they were insistent that they were ending it before he died. It did have another series or two in it though.

Seriously?

Seriously.

What's not to get? It's an unfunny guy in a dress being unfunny. I'm surprised you managed to write such an erudite and thoughtful deconstruction. I switched it on once, watched for 30 seconds, realised it was shit and have never seen it since.

I remember watching the trailers. They didn't make me laugh or even smile once.
So I watched an episode. And then another random on further in to see if I'd missed what it is about it. The only thing about it is, as you quite rightly state Whistling nnocently shit. Has Jim Davidson done an uncredited script fix?

A guy in drag playing an overbearing mother. Someone must have been clearing out Les Dawson's old room, and found a bunch of scripts.

Whose scripts? I'm sure Les was much better at the drag, him and Reg from Corrie. They were funny. I know what you mean though.

Maybe you don't get it as many others don't either, but 5.2 million folks watching it, must be doing something right. Sure it's childish, crude, plays to the lowest common denominator, but this is one of the few comedies I have watched in years where my family have all laughed out loud, tears flowing down our faces (and not because it's so bad).

Mrs. Brown's Boys is currently touring theatres and is sold out every night all over the country. I can't imagine the same of say, Black Books, The IT Crowd etc.

Course not. As we said it's the lowest common denominator - and we're all comedy snobs.

This show is written by retards and enjoyed by retards.

Where to begin. Obviously where I am, we've known Brendan O'Carroll for years and he's been doing Mrs Brown for years. He exemplifies a particular sort of working-class Dublin comedy - Brendan Grace is another example (he was the terrifying, boom-box-listening Father Fintan Stack in one episode of Father Ted). Men in drag remains a major draw for a particular breed of comedy fan here. As to the show, I watched a couple and fully expected, as the sort of person who venerates Stewart Lee and Simon Munnery, to hate it. I did get a few yuks out of it, but not enough to make me want to watch any more. Having said that, I'd watch it before I'd watch 'Not Going Out'. So I say good luck to him - there has always been a place for broad, populist stuff like this on British television.

Maybe it's because all of my family are Irish, but I love this series! For once, it is about working class people who manage to be irreverant and have a laugh despite the troubles of their world. It makes such a refreshing change from the middle class twaddle about dentists and their dizzy wives etc. As for not being original, isn't all art derivative?...x
