You could flip the orginal joke on its head (although this may have been done or if not maybe there's a good reason??) so it could read:
Last night I had a dream I was eating a giant pillow.
When I woke up, I'd eaten a whole bag of marshmallows.
Or
Last night I dreamt I was eating a marshmallow.
When I woke up I realised I'd eaten grandpa flump and his flumpet.
Neither, particularly funny although it's just another slant to the gag.
@Nigel Kelly you could change it slightly to:
Last night I dreamt I was feeding my wife marshmallows
This morning I awoke to find I'd suffocated her.
