Just seeing friends and having lost weight, and as we know the female body is an entirely acceptable subject for objective conversation. I don't mind too much, they were being concerned about a mate, but I did ask would they express equal concerns if I'd put on the same amount of weight and they admitted that they wouldn't dare as even saying you look too thin is kind of a compliment. Which is surely a reflection of a very f**ked up society

What kind of mixed up ego arrogantly demands that people find you attractive even if the converse is true? If you are so against the media perception of beauty, why are you asking others to judge you and conclude that you are beautiful?

Hey, my choices on that thread are always top notch - all killer, no filler - I didn't want to be the BCG arbiter of female beauty, but as no one else was stepping in with the common sense stick, I did what I had to do.

Now, I could lie, in the most dishonest way possible and say someone is beautiful, when I truly believe they are not, for the sake of not offending anyone - but what would be the point of that? My opinion is exactly the same except I've added a layer of deception to my answer.

I saw the same photo you did RCP.

She looked perfectly pretty.

Obesity is linked to many health issues, so to be this fat is basically self-harming. We might as well ask if there's beauty in a picture of a girl cutting her arm with a razor.

For one thing, cutting yourself is causing yourself terrible pain, getting fat is extremely pleasurable.

So it may be having some health impact but not on a par with cutting herself.

Body fascism is weird.

That said the self abnegating narcissim of that photo is a bit off putting.

So too, may being 'too thin', smoking, drinking, not enough exercise, too much exercise, too much fatty food, not enough fatty food, stress...

People do cut themselves for the buzz. They can enjoy it, even though it's obviously causing harm.

Of course there are differences, but let's look at the similarities; (assuming being size 22 girl is putting her health at great risk, which it very likely is) in being asked to approve of her body image, we are being asked to condone her unhealthy lifestyle. She deserves better than that.

Don't generalise. Never, ever generalise. I don't think I even want to elaborate, but please, please don't think you know how everyone feels.

And what is or isn't healthy is a pretty big scale.

People do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons, because they're people andthat's what people do.

I start fights with penguins in zoos and I'd hate to think people judge me for that!
