Hi everyone.
My name is Tim and I am currently starting out as a comedy / drama writer here in Cardiff. Recently, I started to think about an interesting idea that I think could work out as beneficial for any comedy sitcom writer who wants to develop not only a full, completed script for a pilot, but also a strong base of contacts of writers here in Cardiff.
The idea is pretty simple. A comedy / drama detailing the struggles of being a sitcom writer here in Cardiff. No falsities, just pure realism. Telling it exactly how it is. If anyone here watches Curb Your Enthusiasm then this is the sort of style I think this could take. Straight away your probably thinking that this sort of thing has been done before but what I think will make this idea stick out will purely be the fact that it will be written by not just one person. Instead there will be a group of us to bounce ideas around. This will inevitably enable variety and freshness from the project, as everyone's different comedy writing styles will shine through.
So I haven't really thought too much about story and characters, as this is something I wish to develop as a group with as many of you as possible. The only thing I think could work is that the sitcom could show the lives of a couple of different sitcom writers who occasionally meet in group meetings exactly like the ones I wish to organise.
If this interests you then please get in contact. The BBC Script Room deadline is the 21st May and I know it would be a rush but if we all meet up soon enough and keep the meetings regular then we could potentially come up with a pilot for that deadline. Don't think they had a rule about scripts by a group of writers anyway.
I am going to give it a bit of time and see how many of you have replied, then I'll organise a meeting place. Please don't reply if you're a nutter.
Thanks ...
