Probably the best oppo I've seen Page 2

All this under-represented gumph is... well... gumph.

Nobody knows whether the writer is black, white, a train spotter, a woman, a man, an alien, fat, thin, gay, straight, the bloke who works on the meat counter at Sainsbury's, or any other minority, species, gender, religion when that script lands on a producer's desk.

"Asian and black writers are being underrepresented in Emmerdale"

Anyone spot the out of place word here?

The word "writers"?

I'm fairly confident the writer won't be an alien, Mikey.

You are so wrong. Emmerdale is so well crafted with brilliant comic writers.

The only thing is why does it matter what colour or race the writers are as long as they continue the very high standard - ie 50,000,000 times higher than the shit that is Eastenders.

'Well crafted' is bit of an exaggeration, Chappers, it's not Shakespeare you know. Better than Eastenders? Well, Coronation Street is better. Emmerdale fluctuates, I think. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's a lot worse.

I've never watched Emmerdale. But from all the clips I've ever seen it certainly doesn't look any more sparkling or witty than the other soaps.

There are so many writers involved in writng a soap that I'm sure all of them have ups and downs. A lot of BBC writers start at EastEnders. It's silly to say 'they're all shit'.

Emmerdale is a rare beacon of humour in soap land. That's not saying much of course when it's up against Pishenders.

Coronation Street has quite a lot of humour. EastEnders has its moments too.

Emmerdale looks like the bleakest soap ever to me. And I watch EastEnders.

I rarely watch soaps myself tbh.

There are several better things to be doing.

:D Like Jeremy Kyle on ITV3?...I don't watch the soaps, but I would love to write them!

I thought I was being diplomatic but...

Soaps exist just because of ratings. This whole idea of 'leading to better things' is just hogwash; soap take up the majority of the drama budget. If they didn't exist there would be more money to make different types of drama. Okay, these other forms of drama may be the same standard, but they may not be. This opportunity is pretending to make soaps 'writer friendly' when in fact they're not...

Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic

So how is that classified...?

Oh I wasn't remotely talking about the subject of this thread (I had forgotten it was even about writing for Emmerdale) I was just speaking generally about what Chappers had said.

Surely everyone knows that soaps are created by the Illuminati to kill our minds?
