Does this make me a racist? Page 7

How can associating a food stuff with a specific sub-group of people be racist?

I guess the racism is considered to be implied. I understand what you're saying but if you go into the inner city and mention watermelons to young African-American males you'll most likely lose a few teeth if not your life.

That's the image that is conjured up when people see racism in the mention of certain foods.

Is it Kool Aid which is the other stereotype?

Fried chicken and watermelon are the two big ones. Kool-Aid is a few rungs below along with catfish, collard greens and the like.

In an effort to prove that food doesn't make you racist, our dinner tonight is curried goat, rice and peas with fried plantain.

The goat's a little bit tough though!

If you were ethnic it wouldn't be.

Goat though takes ages to cook.

Can you just buy goat in the shops where you live? I've never seen it in Morrison's or Tesco.

Our local buthers cater to a wide population where I live. From black pudding to weird cows stomachs that look like giant sponges, they're all there.

Halal or African butchers usually sell it and are far less likely to sell rump steaks etc.

And Supermarkets in more diverse areas usually sell it along with mutton.

There was a Peckham butcher that used to advertise, spend £10 get cow foot free.

There's always some tripe here for the Mexicans and their menudo. They claim it's a hangover cure but I retch every time I smell the stuff.
