As you're Australian, I bet you didn't bother to learn English before you came over here. ;)

Stone the Flamin Crows*! Is that what the problem was.

*Have never heard anyone bar a fictional TV character say this.

Burger King have got themselves into a bit of trouble with their new adverts with Mary J Blige.

I'm a big fan of Mary's and fried chicken so I was quite surprised at the allegations. I've watched the advert, and really can't find anything racist about it.

What's so racist about it?

I think the fact it had a black woman in it is what the objectors found racist!

What's so racist about it?

Any mention of African-Americans in the same sentence as fried chicken or watermelon is automatically classified as racist in this country.

Oh I see. That went right over my head.

Same thing as associating indians with curry

Which is of course deeply racist

We had a training session at work a few weeks ago about cultural differences. It's interesting how something you do can be considered rude in some cultures yet in others it may considered rude to not to do it.

Are you refering to ethnically cleansing Aborigines?

Maggie Bell, John Peel and Bob Harris.

I don't know who those people are.

Nope. For example in some cultures looking someone in the eye when speaking to them is considered rude but in others it may considered rude to not look at someone when speaking to them. I'm sure there are others but that was the example we were given.

You need to know about John Peel and Bob Harris.

OMG! Does that make me a racist?

What are they famous/infamous for?

Saying Stone the Crows occasionally I imagine.
If not, then I have no idea what's going on yet again.

How can associating a food stuff with a specific sub-group of people be racist?

Racist A person who believes a particular race is superior to others.
Stereotype A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.

I think sterotyping groups of people isn't racist.

It's racist if the intent is to denigrate an entire race, or attempt to raise your own race above others.
