It's difficult to believe that an organisation that prides itself on the imaginations of it's talent should stoop so low as to get into bidding wars / wholesale theft of instantly forgetable mindless rubbish.
There are people on this forum who could tell you how many times Doctor Who used his sonic screwdriver, how many guests stayed at Fawlty Towers and can name the entire cast of Dads Army - but none of them - not a single one of them - not even the chicks - can remember who won the X Factor, The Apprentice and Strictly Come Dancing three years ago.
Does anally nerdy obsessive behaviour make a television show credible? You bet it does.
Totally agree.
It's also a massive cheat. The BBC gets a huge budget from the license fee, that they get frankly whatever. Except they can top up with selling DVDs, shows overseas and co-productions. So playing the competition game and trying to outperform ITV in the viewing figures is a bit like a guy boasting he won a boxing match. He brought a gun too.
