But musicals are amazing! Musical theatre is the devil's work, but you can't beat Gene Kelly for perfection.

Believe me - just dress as a witch. It works for me, often. Of course some would say I don't need to dress up.

I've only actually seen the first one.
But I refuse to believe you don't know what people from Fame wore. REFUSE.
Fame... I think legwarmers and, um, running away from people who mention musicals. Do love legwarmers though. Party is in May so not sure what weather will be like. Had a moment of inspiration and thought I'd quite like to dress up as a lion (Wizard of Oz, although I've never sat through it, has managed to squirm its way into my consciousness) and FOR FUCKS SAKE. Costumes are stupendously ugly, or you can get a 'womans' version. As in, if I was going to wear that I'd just make a few bob and go lap dancing at 'Chavs Chafes'

I can't be doing with people singing like they mean it in public. I'm getting hives just writing about it

There will always be people who resent the coolness of an owl in a hat kinda lass
Quote: AJGO @ April 5 2012, 7:05 PM BSTAgainst my better judgement I do rather like that look. Want a bowler hat anyway, have black shorts and black stilettos so would just need to find black waistcoat. Anyone have a black waistcoat I can borrow?!
Although... It's a bit... It's not really the done thing to turn up looking like that to someone's birthday, is it? But then, if you will choose a musicals theme... But then, won't everyone be trying to find an outfit like that? Gah!!
Plenty of hats in Camden Markets nowadays, trilbys, bowlers & top hats.
I bought two new trilbys last Monday (a winter & a summer) as those BCGs who met last week will know that my pigskin one is getting rather battered.
Is "scatterbrained floozy" still working in the party shop? If so perhaps she can fix you up.

Groovy. Just need the waistcoat... Anyone?!
Will you be wearing one of the hats on the 13th?

I had a dark pinstripe waistcoat, but alas I became too bulky for that suit & I put it all in a charity clothes bag, so now I expect there is a short homeless bloke somewhere walking around looking smart in a dark 3-piece pin-stripe suit.
The charity shops are good places for picking up fancy dress stuff at low cost.
Several up here in Muswell Hill shopping street. Just catch a number 134 bus.
Yes, I'll wear my new trilby on the 13th.
That's a brilliant idea! Donating old fancy dress to a homeless charity! Will certainly liven up shop doorways at night.
"Oh look, there's Marilyn Monroe eating out of a bin."

But but, that's the opposite of what I said.
I seem to recall dressing as a Vampire once & getting an old dinner suit for it at a charity shop for a couple of quid.

Damn...my next suggestion was going to be someone from The Rocky Horror Show, can't beat a ripped fishnet and suspenders

I am genuinely surprised that fancy dress seems to equal looking nuff tarty. Ah well, stilettos, fishnets, black hotpants, waistcoat and bowler hat it is

I always solve that problem by dressing as a man (something I only noticed I was doing after many years!) I used to have an amazing Zorro costume!

I think she's supposed to wear fancy dress not her normal clothes !

I was going to buy unripped fishnets for the party, I'm classy like that
