Mockumentary Comedy Page 4

Well yes, a spoof rockumentary of the Beatlemania thing, using The Beatles! It was very clever and very good. And funny. So it started there.

For the record I found the Rutles very funny.
And Spinal Tap I found fairly amusing in places but ultimately a big disappointment.
I certainly didn't get why it had been hyped so much.

Becaue it goes up to eleven.

Actually - puts on nerd glasses - Geek

The first mockumentary can be accredited to Orson Wells 'War of the Worlds' and from a contemporary cinematic point of view, many cite Woody Allen's 'Take the Money and Run'.

Let's not confuse mockumentary with breaking the fourth wall, though both share many similarities. Add a voice over and some shaky cam and many of the Marx Brothers movies would look Mockumentalised (is that even a word?!).

Yes, yes, we all read the Wikipedia page!

I didn't, I read an article written by someone all filmy - who read the Wiki page.

I think we can trace it back to Tristram Shandy and the like.

Wasn't there a bit in the New Testament where Jesus did a piece to camera?

But Coogan didn't make his film until 2005?!

(waits for Marc to get outraged at my pretend lack of literature.....

....and relax)

Tristram not hand, RC!

It never got past the Pontius Pilot.

I've never bee a fan of the genre. I've yet to see one that really amused me.

Do you keep up with the events with the news of the world? If so, watch "Hacks"

Watch that and tell me what you think... obviously it's not going to make any sense to you if you don't know who Murdoch is or Rebecca Brooks but if you do... please watch it :D

It can't be dead. There is new stuff coming out all the time. I stumbled across this on my YouTube mussings the other day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VeP3BVT1qw
