The UK tax year starts on what used to be the beginning of the year (spring equinox) when taxation was invented , but they had to move it 11 (or was it 13 days) because of protests when the calendar was 'adjusted' by that number of days.

The calendar had got out of step, because (I seem the recall) that they didn't have leap years in the early calendar.

The keyboard one is better, as it has more space and other features in that vein, can't remember what though at the minute. But really, I don't think it matters as the difference is pretty minute. Go for the cheaper one, still a great device at the end of the day.

You can use it to browse the primitive internet browser or organize/search your library of books. But the keyboardless one has a virtual keyboard or you can organize your library on the computer. so it really depends if you prefer a hard keyboard over a "soft" one.

I'm not sure if wifi zone is a specific thing you're talking about but yes you can connect to wifi or 3g if you get that model.

I have a kindle with keyboard. The keyboard is for searching for words in books or documents (like in a pdf file) or writing notes. There is also a rudimentary internet browser, but it's so awful you would only use it if you had no other option available (can't open new windows/tabs, crashes all the time, can't open webpages that have flash elements). I find the ability to search for words invaluable as you can't flip back through a book to re-read a section in the way you can with a real book, so being able to search for a word or character name is really helpful. It also allows you to search the kindle store and buy books from your kindle.

The WiFi works like it does on your laptop. ie. if you don't know the WiFi password you can't access the network. I would get the 3G version, though, as it means free 3G basically everywhere, and means you can sync up your books when you're out and about (so that when you open the kindle app on your computer or phone it knows which page you were on). Also means that if you do ever have to use the web browser you can for free.

I don't know what the touch screen one is like. I do find the keyboard very useful, (I don't think I'd use my kindle as much if I couldn't search through books and documents) but it is awkward to type on.

So Android pads any good? (Please add own jokes about incontinent robots)

I was thinking of getting a Playbook but have now been put off.

Basically I've got a Samsung n130 web book. Which does most everything I want. But I'd like something smaller with a detachable keyboard weighing more like a pound or less.

Apps not such a bother but would need to be able to use Office.

The Gallaxy and ASSUS ones always looked good.

I've been using the asus transformer prime since January and I'm very happy with it. The battery lasts all day (well over 12 hours) very easily and you can charge the tablet and the keyboard seperately (when connected the keyboard charges the tablet) so no need to bother with power cables etc.

It's preloaded with Polaris Office which has basic word, excel and powerpoint but I don't know how good the excel and powerpoint are as I only use it for essay-writing. There are other office apps you can download but I don't think there is a proper Microsoft one, and there isn't an OpenOffice app either.

The only things that are a bit of a pain are that the GPS doesn't work at all because of the metal casing (they're bringing out a new transformer in a few months apparently to deal with that so maybe you should see what that's like) and the cursor is a little inprecise.

I heard good things about it, my DSA adviser suggested it.
