Hehe!

I agree that it was a pretty poor episode this week. Both the NHS Bill and the Budget should have provided easy and rich pickings for any satirist worth their salt, and yet they floundered more pathetically than Ed Miliband's response. Are we really resorting to criticising the availability of different breakfast cereals when - The Guardian et al would have us believe - the NHS is being 'killed'? Quite astonishing.
As for the round table, I generally enjoy that part of the show but agree with RC that none of them seemed to have much to say this week, and even less that was either politically interesting or funny.
Show slightly saved at the end by the hilarious round-table debate between pompous idiot Dr Evan Harris and the comedy vicar. Even Mitchell seemed astonished at Harris's non-arguments. Great watch.
To be fair to Channel 4 and Endemol, I don't think that 10 O'Clock Live has ever been pushed as 'satire' as such, but a 'topical comedy programme'; nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be a distinction they've tried to clarify, and I think the show suffers a little for that. It works far better if one considers it the latter, than something intended as proper satire.

You might have to quote yourself in this weeks BCG Newsletter Aaron, as this is an extemely insightful observation.
I think as an audience, we crave a great satirical show and we're looking at 10 O'Clock Live to fulfil this desire. When it comes up short, we almost feel cheated by television in general.

That bit was full of cringe!

Fan of the Office? I took advantage of the fact I was watching on tape delay to fast forward through that as soon as he started asking what swear words he was allowed to use!

No.
It was a very flat episode. Agree with Aaron that the material available was great but not used well enough and the table bits were poor.
Yet again Lauren had a pop at a politician trying, and failing, to be funny, showing once more the complete lack of self awareness she has that annoys me so much.
Quote: chipolata @ February 29 2012, 10:43 PM GMTI like the cosy round table chats. They're like the "talky bits" from Steve Wright in the Afternoon. But with less bite.
I really like this, too, mainly because I love banter between comedians. I do think it work better if it wasn't live and there was time to edit things out, so they wouldn't talk over each so much.
Not bad this week, some great bits but also a few low points. Jimmy's Queen Roadshow skit started strongly with the Diana heckler gag but then turned into a series of sub-Spitting Image jokes about the monarchy.
Lauren's bit - do I even need to mention this?
Good stuff - first round table discussion on pasties and the brilliant clip of the Labour bods in Greggs. The return of Mitchell's rant, Jimmy's gag about the Lib Dems getting enough money to influence the Tories, good guests on the debate section and even the filmed bit wasn't too bad.
Unforgiveable - no Brooker rant.
They should definitely dump the filmed bits and one of the round table discussions so we can get both a Brooker and Mitchell rant every week. I know others will cry out to have Lauren's bits axed (ooh painful) but if they did that, she really wouldn't have anything to do at all.
Certainly better then last week and probably the 2nd best episode of the series.

Probably due to 'him' having a baby.
I agree that Mitchell's rant should be brought back. Maybe switch it each week. Jimmy & Charlie always seem to have two segments while David only gets one (the generally weak discussion) a week. Rotate it so the all get two bits every other week or sutin (do the maths yourself).

So having a baby means you can't write a three minute rant? Pah! I write rants on the BCG day in and day out, it takes no time whatsover to express yourself through the medium of bile, anger and personal insecurity.
Wait a second...if he can't write a rant because his life has been so busy with sprog production...how can he find time to be on the show? Aha!
Lauren's bits (not those bits) would be fine if she stopped tripping over words.
Yep, you've got me there, I'll have to resign as his official spokesman.

I know exactly what you mean. I know it's live and shit happens, but when she trips up all the time, it's like she's sending out a message that she isn't confident in the material or her own delivery.
And human nature being what it is, our natural reaction is to destroy her as the runt of the litter (I said runt, calm down).
She definitely looks a lot more comfortable sat around the table surrouded by the lads. Maybe it's some psychological thing.
