Okay, I'll give it a shot...
Merah, first of all, was well within his rights to be carrying firearms. I don't think anybody could claim that guns are the reason these kids died. He could have quite easily have killed seven people and made his escape without firearms. Any idiot can see that.
And, okay, these Jewish kids may not have been *immediately* threatening Merah, but they were certainly acting suspiciously. Sure, they may not have been breaking into his house and threatening his family, but they were attending a Jewish school, preparing themselves for a lifetime of oppression and violence against Merah's loved ones.
The danger was merely time-shifted. They *could* have been a danger, and Merah had no way of knowing how immediate the danger was. He was well within his rights to protect his territory and confront the problem head-on by proactively approaching them and shooting them in their heads.
Frankly, I think it's a disgrace that the French police decided to corner him in his own home -- his own home! -- and kill him. Where I come from, the government has more respect for the rights of the individual.
Is that how it works?

See, now you're getting the hang of it. Add the historical context and the current situation in Palestine and you have the shooter's justification for his actions.
You're still barking up the wrong tree with the gun thing though. The 7/7 Bombers (and their subsequent ilk) didn't have access to firearms, so they made bombs instead. I mean, Meerkat only killed 7 people and they were all French, whereas our maniacs killed 53 people - all without guns.
I do agree that a neighbourhood watch guy in Florida shooting a suspicious teenager is exactly the same as a radical Muslim declaring war on all French people. It is exactly the same, exactly. (well in terms of accurate press reporting anyways)

I was actually slightly impressed that she admitted (eventually) that it was her, and is kind of saying so what. Most people would have just denied it and waited for it to blow over.
