True the far right has very much been absorbed into the normal political life of France, much as it has in England.
There's an argument I guess for having a big tent with people in it you don't like. The question is how do you find a space in it for the Jihadis, without the violence?

Are you both really suggesting that you are perfectly within your rights to kill someone just for looking suspect? He wasn't a violent criminal, he wasn't planning a robbery, he was trespassing but not in someone's house, on someone's street. If you and I are both walking down a street at night and you approach me to ask me the time, but I think you are going to attack me because you're wearing a hat that shades your face can I kill you? I've been threatened by other men in the past and I felt like I was in danger - does my paranoia and overreaction overrule your right to live?

Yes.
The fear of retirbution and consequence has to be tangible.
This wasn't some street it was a private neighbourhood with clearly marked warnings. The point isn't dealing with criminal behaviour, that's already to late. Rather it's about dealing with precriminal behaviour.

I must say, I'm surprised by the amount of support for the killer on this thread, even from Carpark.
Putting all issues of race aside -- this f**king idiot shot somebody to death on the flimsiest of premises.
He patently wasn't defending himself, given that he is on record as saying he was actually *following* the poor kid.
In the UK he'd be up on charges of at least manslaughter, if not murder, and that would be a good thing.

He didn't shoot him because he looked suspicious, he killed him because he says he feared for his life.
Fact: the dead man was committing a crime.
Fact: the shooter was tasked with patrolling the neighborhood.
Fact: the kid tried to evade the shooter and conceal his identity.
Fact: the two men struggled at some point.
All the shooter has to do is prove that he acted in self-defence. If any of the following are also factual, then the shooting was justified and legal:
If the kid made an aggressive move toward the man.
If the kid threatened the man.
If the kid tried to grab the man's firearm.
If the kid reached in his waistband or pocket.
Unless there are witness who can prove that the young man made no aggressive or suspicious moves, the guy won't be charged.
