I laughed too and then felt like a horrible, horrible person. While still laughing. Which I'm doing again now. I am a horrible, horrible person. Who's still laughing
If I'm wave my wing wang on Hampstead Heath will the government arrest the Dali Llama?
nb I'm doing my entry for the Glasgow comp on Sweet Kony, anyone fancy a peak as I can't publish it.

It is hilarious though.
Quote: sootyj @ March 18 2012, 5:59 PM GMTJournalists who are convinced that your military and intelligence community are full of shit. And are desperately trying to cover theirs and your government arses.
So journalists had access to bin Laden's secrets? They have spy satellites and aerial drones?
No, they have access to information gleaned from our military and intelligence assets. They are free to report as they see fit and frequently do so to the government's/military's/intelligence agency's detriment. That's how things work in a free society. So if they report something that makes your "Osama was a tottering old man who was incapable of causing harm" argument then maybe you should believe them because they are, as a whole, typically left-leaning and anti-government.
Over America's longest war ever, which may also be its most pointless and amongst the most bloody.
Most bloody? Fewer than 2000 American deaths in more than 10 years of war? We lose that many people in 2 weeks due to motor vehicle accidents. We lost more than that in mere hours in many, many battles in the past. Hell, bin Laden killed more than that in an hour or so and in doing so kicked off this whole "pointless" war in 2001.

I didn't know that only americans bleed

He specifically mentioned America, thus my response.
He didn't say 'the war in which most americans had died'. I'd say approximately 35,000 civilian deaths is pretty bloody

35,000 deaths is a blip on the radar of the world's wars, unfortunately. And how many of those deaths came at the hands of the Taliban and al Qaeda? The vast majority, of course.
Well that's alright then. As long as it's the other side that's killing them as a result of the war we're not at fault. I'm sure in a couple of years when we all leave their lives will have been greatly improved by the whole mess.

Exactly. We are not at fault for the actions of others. Simple, isn't it?
A very myopic and convenient way to view the world.

The truth hurts, eh?
"We" are no more responsible for the Taliban blowing up kids in a market than "you" are for Hitler killing a few million Jews.
^ There's Godwin's Law sorted for ya.

1 After lying about in Gulf War 2; WMDs, 45 minute readiness, links between AQ and Sadam, their own plans to smuggle oil out of Iraq via pipe line, bribing families of people murdered by the US army, the number of people shot at check points, not keeping to their own insanely lax rules of engagement, having the Easter bunny assassinated, sending mentally ill soldiers back into duty on doses of antipsychotics which would get you barred from driving a milk float, torturing people, sending people to be tortured by other people, bombing weddings, inspiring some of the worst war movies ever made, appointing militias they were supposed to be fighting into the security services and of course the treatment of poor Bradley.
Then your army/intelligence agencies/government have comprehensively lost the benefit of the doubt. That I am not surprised, merely depressed. That you still believe some lying arse hole in a suit.
When they say.
"A bloke who's been tortured in Guantanomo for 5 years has conclusive evidence that Bin Laden was planning to invade the moon."

Well if one looks at the war on terror as a whole. And count the civilian casualties and factor in stats from more than just the US army. Then the number starts to escalate.

Just imagine how many more innocent deaths would have been on Bin Laden's hands if we hadn't invaded Afghanistan and broken up the Taliban?
As for the casualties of war, if NATO had set out from the start to kill innocent civilians, the numbers would have been through the roof. Hell, we could have wiped out every major town in Afghanistan from the air in a couple of weeks. We certainly didn't invade for all the goat and heroin freebies on offer.
This battle between Western and Middle Eastern philosphies has been a long time coming. I gave up on the muliti-cultural pipe dream the minute radical Muslims started burning books on British streets and calling for Salman Rushdie's death.
You'll forgive me if I don't support your liberal views on The War On Terror, but it is not in my self interest to be ruled by Sharia law.
