How far can technology go?

I was discussing this with a group of people today. We were wondering not only what more phones/iPads would be able to do in future but also about their design.

I'm not sure what more devices can do, although smart phones seem to be transforming into a form of payment system now.
Perhaps in years to come instead of doing the keys, phone, wallet grab as you run out the door you will only need the phone. It could be transformed into a house key in a similar thing way to how some hotels use swipe cards to acsess to rooms.

As for design maybe they will invent fold away ones.

What do you think or what would you like see?

I'm just glad we've reached the point now where they've stopped getting smaller and smaller. I like that we're moving back to fairly big screened phones.

They're working on technology which would allow devices to project a display and keyboard onto any flat surface -- no more physical monitors, mice or keyboards.

The cloak of invisibilty seems to be going quite well, considering. So I'd like one of those please, in different materials and colours that can be turned on and off (but by some super strand of thread, not by a big toggle switch that everyone can see even when you're invisible)

I foresee a day when technology will take away all the drudgery from our lives, and cool people will go to expensive drudgery gyms to experience it, by sitting at desks for hours and fuming in traffic jams in virtual rush hours.

I'm still waiting for my jet pack.

Hover Boots, Pill Food, Moon Bases, Silver Jump Suits that process your waste.

Aside from space travel, we have already hit our technological peak. All of these recent gubbins that we proudly pat ourselves on the back for were invented years ago - Babbage created the first computer in Victorian times and even the Internet is nothing more then a glorified telegraph system.

What's old is new - just repackaged.

Ditto. I'd also like a simple flying broomstick (maybe with a padded seat). It doesn't need to fly too high, but it's the thing I most craved when I saw the first 'Harry Potter' film.

A friend of mine is working in a team trying to design (to separate) algorithms of the visual cortex, with the ultimate intention of making an artificial eye. An earlier application will be optical implants that receive wireless digital information: e.g. the internet/tv in one's vision that only the recipient can see. Some of their opposition has already designed and built such an implant, but they're having difficulties with transmitter/battery range, which at the moment is only about 1.5 metres. Their opposition's latest attempt was featured on the BBC website fairly recently.

Robocop here we come.

And then there's 3D Printing of foodstuffs and fuel etc..

The thought of having the internet appearing in my eye is utterly creepy! Teary

I'll wager a lot of girls would have broomsticks.
Most of the boys would have Hermione.

Hahaha! I love the title of the article and the image underneath. Is that the best we were hoping for?
