BBC Writers' Room

BBC Writers' Room has had a refresh: http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/

Details of the new system here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/blogwritersroom/posts/STOP-PRESS-We-have-a-new-script-system
though they still don't accept email. Basically it's three windows to submit scripts per year (alongside other opportunity's like 'Laugh Track')

Opportunities here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/opportunities/

Dan

Lack of an email option is a bit tiresome but, apart from that, this looks like a good thing.

I think it will be a far more efficient system, and the "workshops for the shortlisted few" sound good.

Looks good.

More scripts in the archive though please. God knows they must have some treasures stored.

Somehow being able to submit a script to Writersroom any time felt reassuring - although I never have yet! For me having a limited window it actually more likely to make me pull my finger out and submit something. Otherwise "I'll just give it another edit tomorrow". So I think it is a good thing.

And the new website looks good.

Thanks for the links.

My script has been burning a hole in my pocket for about 5 weeks now. Well, taking up extra space in my wardrobe. The sooner I can get feedback that says 'don't call us', the sooner I can get back to flipping burgers.

Bye, Bye Scriptsmart..

I see the 'window' is open. Quite a large one, no doubt to give the royal mail a chance to locate your script. Working towards a deadline might help kill off some procrastination.

I like it, gives you something to aim for, a time scale.

Plus, it's much better for the readers too. Get the huge avalanche of scripts, then have 2 or 3 months for the sift.

Guess the others will be August/September, another December/January. Something like that, spaced out evenly

Probably more contingent on a ready supply of the specially trained dart-throwing monkeys required for the selection process.

:D

Re: Writers Room. I've submitted a script to the BBC in their first window and have a second almost ready. Their T's And C's state if you send more than one entry during any given window they will only read one.Do I be patient and wait for the second opening, or do I send second script in same window with a false name and friends/relatives address? Are the BBC likely to forgive me if I'm good enough or take a dim view and ban me for life and so miss out on all my future poor attempts?

Be patient. Wait and see what they think of your first script first. Send it in the next window.

Oh, and as you're ultimately looking for a contract with the BBC, it's probably not wise to pee them off with underhand tactics such as your false name plan.
