In my experience, replacement laptop screen are always ridiculously expensive.

It's probably best to go with a recognised Toshiba repairer. Or depending on the age of the existing one, buy a new computer

I was worried someone might say that!

Cheers, Bill.

Hang on, what's wrong with the screen? There maybe a simple, cheaper solution. My Dad's laptop screen stopped working, so he bought a new laptop from Currys for £299, as replacement screens were as bill suggested expensive!. Unfortunately though when I went to visit my Dad, I had a look at the old broken laptop. I noticed that the screen image was still there. It was just very, very dark. Quick Google suggested that the lamp board (whatever the technical name is) had burned out. £15-£20 later after a search on eBay I had replaced the lamp and the laptop was working again. Much to the horror of my Dad!

If the screen has just gone blank, check it by holding it up to the light at different angles. It will be very dimmed!

Backlight, I believe it's called.

Inverter is the word I was looking for:

Unfortunately, the screen is buggered, someone dropped it. Whistling nnocently

Thanks for the suggestion.

The 'inverter' is actually the power supply unit for the backlight.

Usually backlights are fluorescent tubes and they need a high voltage so the inverter converts the low voltage from the laptop battery into the high voltage for the light.

As Lee says they do often fail.

I recently had to get my daughter's laptop screen replaced as she trod on it !

I used these people http://conceptex.co.uk/site/

First class service, same day repair.

I know they're in Wolves but might be worth an email asking if they do mail order screens or can suggest anything else?

Good luck.

The corner of the frame of my laptop screen has a crack - not the screen itself.

I have fixed it with brown tape!

Girl !

Ha. Well, last time I took my laptop to be mended, they f**ked it right up and wiped everything. I'll stick to tape from now on, thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, OR. I should be ok to fit it myself and that seems the only way I'll make any saving.

Most places seem to charge around £70 for the screen plus their fitting fee, which seems pretty extortionate having seen how quickly it can be done.

Thanks again. :)

No problem Ode Pal, anytime.

Anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Right, so I have my Mac Mini connected to my TV via a dvi>hdmi cable and it works great. For the sound I'm using a cable from the mini's headphone socket to the Tv anologue red and yellow stereo cable heads thingies. I've selected on the TV's menu to override hdmi sound input for the anologue stereo cable. But there's no sound coming through. I even hooked up my MP3 player. No luck. Any ideas?

Figured this out. I needed a double ended 3.5mm audio cable as there is a audio socket at the back of the TV I didn't see before. That will teach me not to consult the TV's instructions manual.

:)

Anybody know how I can get Google chrome on android to continue playback of videos/music streaming when I switch to another tab? At the moment it pauses if I open a new tab and it is driving me nuts. Can't find any answers via Google.
