Reminds me of a news story a few years ago where they discovered that dogs have accents when they bark depending on the accents of their owners. What sort of research were they doing for that to emerge? That's not really a bi-product of other research, you had to set out to work out if dogs have accents! Is there nothing more useful to do? Maybe just sharpen the pencils for the real scientists...

And it's obvious that animals have accents otherwise different languages wouldn't have different words for the sounds they make

It sounds like he meant "take no prisoners".

"Gay marriage: Roman Catholic archbishops step up fight"
They also add that changing the law would "gradually and inevitably transform society's understanding of the purpose of marriage.
"There would be no recognition of the complementarity of male and female or that marriage is intended for the procreation and education of children."
Would that explain why infertile people are banned from marrying? How odious can you get!

Imagine the outrage if you did ban infertile couples or those who have chosen not to have children from marrying.Or if you banned poeple who don't believe in a/your God. Society will not fall apart if we allow men to marry men and women to marry women.

Well when I call my doggy in house she understands 'EYUP gerrin tha' ginnel now you mingin' mutt'.
Could be something in that research. All true.
I'm really enjoying all this 'gay marriage' debate stuff - not so much the actual issue - two fruits getting hitched is a non-event, but the bizarrely misguided liberal reactions.
The same people who can't wait to shout in your face that they don't believe in God or marriage are the same ones screaming that gays should be allowed to wed.
It is such a minor issue effecting so few people and if questioned, the vast majority of British people really couldn't give a crap, yet the Lib-tards are running to their keyboards and gushing high horse-gasms all over it.
This is taking up far too much news time for what it is - basically nothing.

It's not about the belief in marriage as a good institution, it's about people being denied certain rights based on their sexual orientation at the behest of a religious organisation. Saying it doesn't matter because only a small minority of people are negatively affected by it is not a very sturdy moral standpoint. If the news only reported things on the basis of how many people were involved and the demographic of the readership it wouldbe worrying.
Quote: DaButt @ March 9 2012, 5:56 PM GMTI've been watching Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan and a severely injured Marine said something like "I'd like to go back there with a chain gun and kill every last one of the Taliban."

"A US soldier in Afghanistan has shot dead 15 civilians and wounded others after entering their homes in Kandahar province, Afghan and Nato sources say.
He left his military base in the early hours of the morning, attacking at least two homes. Nine children are among the dead."
I don't think soldiers are always in the best state of mind to judge the situation.

Did your boyfriend turn down your proposal again?

I don't know many people who think that?
Marriage has nothing to do with God, so if you meant atheists by that (which you may not have) I think you're a bit off target.
70% of straight marriages now have no religious content whatsoever. So why a religious leader thinks he has any say over the whole concept of marriage is bizarre.
Quote: Harridan @ March 11 2012, 2:27 PM GMTSaying it doesn't matter because only a small minority of people are negatively affected by it is not a very sturdy moral standpoint.
Again, it doesn't effect me either way. I have no problem if gays want to get married or not and most people think the same in this country. But it really is a non-event, it has no life changing parameters and the impact on society is minimal. That is why I question it's prominence in the news, because as everyone knows - fact times importance equals news.
A religious leader says that gays shouldn't get married as according to him, marriage is a covenant under God and goes against his beliefs. So, you now have a battle of tolerances - sexual or religious - by siding with either you are showing a form of bigotry. Again, I don't really care either way.
I'm more bemused by the 'crusading' liberals who can't wait to get stuck in. It's like watching one breed of sheep attacking another breed of sheep. Luckily, I don't have a dogma in this fight.

Yes, very droll.

Ooh, such an original thinker!
I think if there are any legal benefits to marriage over civil partnership.
They should be banned or made available to all.
Also any liberal commentator who criticises the church and ignores other faiths.
Should be hit in the face with a wet fish.
