IMO: Okay.. I empathise wholeheartedly with the sentiment, but for me, as I said before, "The Message" says it all.. and as far as the Vietnam thang goes, Billy Joel hit home in a stronger way.

Hip-Hop vocals remind me of Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar playing: too many words/notes. It's the holes that you leave, not the spaces that you fill up.

If they stripped out most of the rap and just spoke the essentials, it would be more effective imo.

The rapping in that song is a bit too fast for me as well, but they had to go fast to go double-time over the slow beat. It was either that or rap at normal speed, which would've meant the song would've been twice as long, if they'd still wanted to include all of the lyrics.

Anyway, compare that song to the garbage today's kids have to put up with in the mainstream, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a16NUb3WC-4

Rancid - Nihilism

! Sidekick is one of my most favourite songs.

Laura Marling - Night After Night

First heard this songin a shop and I was so taken aback by it that I loitered for 5 minutes just to hear it. Reminds me of Peggy Lee's darker songs.

Is THE greatest album ever recorded by any band in the history of time

Period

They are most excellent, although I could never say what my greatest anything of all time is..

Listened to a bit of What Becomes of the Broken Hearted but it was too cheery so on the Soundgarden now

The Selector - Three minute hero

Missing Words is gorgeously sad

Charlie Rich - The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.

I'm worried this evening might descend into my dirty little Country and Western secret fetish.

Don't hate me.

Is it?

Dont really pay much attention to the words when listening to the Selector

Too busy skankin

:)

I've heard a few Dolly Parton songs lately that I quite like.

I always thought I despised all country and western.

Classic country (pre-1980s) is filled with great songs and performers. You can't go wrong with Dolly, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, etc.
