Quote: Lee @ March 8 2012, 4:14 PM GMTAnyone figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Right, so I have my Mac Mini connected to my TV via a dvi>hdmi cable and it works great. For the sound I'm using a cable from the mini's headphone socket to the Tv anologue red and yellow stereo cable heads thingies. I've selected on the TV's menu to override hdmi sound input for the anologue stereo cable. But there's no sound coming through. I even hooked up my MP3 player. No luck. Any ideas?
The yellow is for video, you want the red & white. It may be that you can't go from the headphone socket to those inputs, you may need a Line Out.

Yeah, there is no yellow. It's a stereo cable. Maybe they're one directional but I'm not sure what they would be for if that was the case?
It's not a one directional cable. It's probably down to the fact you're trying to output in via the headphone socket I reckon.
The headphone socket on the Mini is usually connected to external speakers. I'm inputting to the sockets on the side of the TV. The ones normally used for camcorders and other "IN" devices. Maybe I just have a faulty cable? It was only £2.50 from Amazon.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't being daft but things like that happen !
I just copied a Sykes episode off my V+ box without the volume turned up !
Result, Sykes - The Silent Movie !

I'm with you fella. It's always the simplest fix that does it.

Yellow is usually video signal.
Audio is usually red & White (I think). TV may be mono not stereo so try just the white plug first.
The trick is to be systematic & only test one variation at a time, so use the MP3 player as source, first plug in your headphones to the MP3 player & make sure that it is outputting an audio signal, then without changing any MP3 player settings unplug the headphones & plug in the lead to the TV. Check the booklet that came with the TV, if you still have it or look up the model on the Internet & try find its user manual there.
Disconnect the HDMI signal at the TV initially. With a sure Audio signal going in to the white socket, try all the Menu options on the TV.
Are ALL three input sockets on the TV, Red, White and Yellow. If not the lead is probably specific to that TV & may have been supplied in its box. Look at the jack-plug that you plugged into the MP3, has it got the same number of copper bands as the headphone plug, if not I suspect that you bought the wrong lead, get one with a single jack and a red & white plug on the other end.
I appreciate that Bill. There is no yellow lead though. I don't need a yellow one as the video is hdmi.
I'll check the banding tomorrow. I'm just not sure why a simple stereo lead would have any issues. I've used that in various different setups many times. its just odd that they're not working.
I seeee why you two kept bringing the yellow cable up!! I'm daft. I meant to say red and white! >_<

Gonna get technical now, sort of.
I'm sure you cannot go from the headphone socket to the inputs on the TV, it's all about the gain/impedance. I remember trying this in my teens and all I got, with my stereo turned right up, was a very low hiss/muffled sound.
If you're trying to watch a film, all I do is input the video to the TV and leave the Mac to output the audio through it's speakers.

Hello.
Can anyone recommend a trustworthy site to buy replacement Toshiba laptop screens?
There is a seller on Amazon but was hoping there might be somewhere I can get it cheaper than £70 odd.
Cheers.

In my experience, replacement laptop screen are always ridiculously expensive.
It's probably best to go with a recognised Toshiba repairer. Or depending on the age of the existing one, buy a new computer
