White Van Man - Series 2 Page 2

The first episode annoyed me because of all the hints that the dad had died which weren't believeable and feel they should have started 2nd series where they ended the 1st, but I love the show. Think it's one of best in recent years and shocked it's not a bigger hit.

I have really got into the show since the second series started. I only watched half of the first episode last year, didn't really do much for me but I'm loving it now. Been catching up with the first series in the last few days too, great stuff.

It's simply not funny!

For no very good reason I've been mentally recasting this as if it had been late 90s. Sarah Alexander would have been Emma, but who else would have been in it?

I'm disappointed with tonight's episode, my first thought was it was going to be a traditional sitcom ending leading them to the place it all started (Olly's flat) but I soon ruled this out as everyone kept going on about the bad reception in the flat whilst Darren had fantastic reception in the cupboard the whole time.

Was still funny though but that glaring inconsistency has annoyed me.

I didn't even notice that. Good point. It was very funny though.

Perhaps Darren had found a reception hot spot?

Another very good episode.

I didn't notice that, great spot. What occurred to me was that there was no lock on the wardrobe door so why the hell didn't Darren just walk out earlier?

Good episode though, one of the best ever. Mark Benton's cameo was cracking.

Enjoying this (sort of... ok, enjoying it maybe pushing it a wee bit but it's ok). I find myself kinda having to switch off to the farcicalness of it all at times. It almost feels as tho' a good sitcom is being ruined. Dunno!

It has some genuine funny moments but for me it just seems to ruin it all with superfluous farce.

Series 2 has been amazing and hilarious throughout. My favourite episodes so far in this series are 'Cupboard' and 'The Break Up'.

I thought that 'The Break Up' has been one of the most funniest episodes in 'White Van Man' altogether. Especially that 'Officer and a Gentleman' scene at the end with Ollie and Darren - I thought it was very well done and it was hilarious, it had me in stitches. Laughing out loud

I personally can't wait for 'Crime and Punishment', it certainly looks very good from the preview clips. :D

I'd say WVM is quite typical of the new trend in TV sitcoms to be directed at a particular audience, to be of interest to them and sort of mirror their world a bit, and (try to) get a dedicated following rather than the more usual way of past sitcoms, trying to be broadly funny with universal type structured humour that most should get. Certainly the ones on BBC Three and C4 seem that way to me.

The big trouble is, most of the commissions now seem to be going exclusively to these channels. What on earth has happened to the old idea of the mainstream peak time sitcom? You know, the sort that always crams up the all time best sitcom lists they sometimes do. Has something gone wrong with the system here?

It's not the system, it's the people at the top of it.

I thought the Cupboard episode was the best they've done. I thought they followed it up with the worst this week. When I read the sypnosis for the footy episode, it sounded pretty interesting. It wasn't, it was really weak, poor characterisation, shoe-horning regular characters into the story and never funny. Shame.

I don't get this programme, although I'm basing my judgement on one episode when there was a football match being played, so maybe I'm unfair!? Hardly any character or interaction just a footy match being played . . . . ?

That's possibly the worst episode to date. IMO.
