NJ Reject: Tesco/Apprentice

Tesco/Apprentice Sketch

FX: The Apprentice introduction music throughout.

MANAGER:

This isn't a game. This is a 4-week work experience scheme.

VOICEOVER:

From job centres across the city, 12 people have come to Tesco. They're here to compete for a job worth £15,000 pounds a year.

MANAGER:

I don't care where you're from. I'm looking for someone that isn't motivated by money, or career prospects, or job satisfaction.

VOICEOVER:

To succeed, they're going to have to work 40 hours a week filling freezers, and taking orders from this man, Tesco branch manager, Barry Bolan.

MANAGER:

(SHOUTING) Did you even ask if they had a Nectar card?!

VOICEOVER:

In this economy, it's the chance of a lifetime. Tesco is on the lookout for an Apprentice.

MANAGER:

You're fired!

Very neat and economic

Good one.

Hiya, Only prob I could see was Tesco are clubcard, it's Sainsbury that are nectar. Maybe could have had muted sheep & cow noises to represent apprentices?

would newsjack be able to use theme music from a TV show?

Thanks for all the comments!

I assumed they would be able to since it's a piece of classical music written in the 1930s.

Hmm...I think the noises would make it a bit longer unnecessarily.

wouldn't they still need to get permission? I suppose they could use similar music without the rights anyway

Good stuff.

Only shame is, if a production company saw this script they'd want to develop it (minus irony) into a genuine, genuine series. Completely as written.

I think The Apprentice sketches have been done to death.

That said, this is done quite well, but needs to be longer, building up to some twist with Jobseekers' Allowance/a protest/etc.
