A whole album of Bossa Nova... heaven!

Surely not the awesome Pixies album?

You're the one for me, fatty!
You're the one I really, really love!

Smiths

Slagman: Sorry no.. it's a compilation with the likes of Sergio Mendes, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, Coleman Hawkins, Stan Getz, etc. digitally remastered and blasting out in Clapham Junction amid the carnage of a London Friday night! :)

Ambulances and fire engines are already on the go here ..not the cops though as they don't need us and expect the same! ;)

The Pixies rock. I remember seeing a documentary about Mose Allison who inspired Frank Black to write 'Allison' off the Bossa Nova album. They also got a good mention on 'The seven ages of rock' when it was the week for alternative
American rock.

Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony.

The Sonics.

I just cannot get into The Pixies. I can just about appreciate Debaser, but that's about it.

Monkey gone to heaven is a seminal song Winterlight.

''I just cannot get into the pixies''

....use more ky mate!

works for me!

Laughing out loud re: KY

Pixies were stunning. Raw unfiltered angst. The Debaser album is needly sing-along aggression, the perfect soundtrack to any downtown Los Angeles riot.

Who can forget the glorious ending to "Fight Club" as Frank Black sings "Where is my mind?" A moment for SlagA to weep without guilt. And the building tension in the simple repetition of the same lyric in 'Monkey gone to Heaven' never fails to stagger me.

For me the greatest thing about the Pixies is the clash between their beautiful melodic songs and their songs of primal screaming. That's why I love the Trompe Le Monde CD - melody and power intermixed with atonal and spastically rhythmic interludes. Alex Eiffel, Letter To Memphis, Motorway to Roswell - Lovey

Listening to The Pixies also taught me that missing or odd-numbered bars in music could be made to appear natural and not cause the listener to miss a beat. It lead me to experiment with my own writing.

Kings Of Leon, 'Because Of The Times'. One of the best bands of the last few years. And I think I might follow that up with a little Gram Parsons . . .ooh . . . nice. Dont fear the country.

Still my tinnitus :(

I try and imagine it's crashing waves on a sunkissed beach, so nice. :)
