Always try to leave the internet connection off unless you really need it on to play a game online, etc.
Why's that? I selected the update. It's okay.
Many games will try to access the net to update leaderboards, etc. It slows the gaming process down and can be a right pain.
But yeah, you just bought yours so I guess doing the updates, etc are just part of the installing process.
If you want to watch pirated films and TV on your system then turn the internet connection off. I remember there being a bit of an uproar a while back because Sony included some small print in one of the system updates that basically said something along the lines of "if we are aware that you are using the PS3 for pirated material we will withdraw your access to the Playstation Network". This is a bit dodgy and suggests they may monitor the content on your PS3s hard-drive!
Oh right. Bloody hell. Thanks for the heads up. Not like I watch any pirated stuff mind

That's more for games I think. And it's really not worth the trouble hacking your PS3.
If you're updating for the first time it could take a while, Lee, but it gets easier.

I have bought myself GTA4, Fallout3 and Little Big Planet. Hopefully tomorrow I should receive Uncharted 2 and Skyrim in the post from Blockbuster.

Your ID is your network user name. You need to sign up to the Playstation network (on a pc) to get an ID that hasn't already been used. I'll PM you both mine.
