Is cyber stalking a real problem? Page 16

dellas, don't take it to heart. I think you're worrying far too much about stuff which probably doesn't exist and is best ignored if it does.

What 'attitude'?- this is a forum for the people run by the the people, not a facist regime run by 'moderators' or is it? Huh? ;)

Crikey where are you when I need help!

Zooo please don't get defensive, other posters have been FAR more controversial and offensive than me, and threatening, you just don't see it at all, very sad.

I'm not being defensive.
I'm saying that posters are not invited to go on 'campaigns' to get rid of contributors they don't like.

Just a two pennyworth..

IMO Most of the male contributors to this thread talk as if they were on their own with the lads, as it were. They wouldn't dream of saying some of the things they say if they were in a real-life situation, i.e. sitting down face-to-face. There'd soon be a ruck if they did.

So lads.. think about it.. some of that blokey banter style can be inappropriate.. and not very nice for women.

I, for one, promise to do nothing more on the BCG than sit silently with my hands folded on my lap while asking The Creator to forgive me for my misogynistic ways.

I don't do it (i'm pretty sure), but I enjoy reading it it makes BCG a much more enjoyable place for me to visit.

Few internet forums are democracies. "Benign dictatorship" is the usual description. Aaron and Mark put in the work and pay the costs of running this site, so they make the rules and we have zero say in how things are run. The main rules seem to be: don't spam; DON'T SHOUT; search before creating a new thread to avoid repetition; stay on topic in discussions of specific programs; don't be offensively unpleasant; and if you're upset about anything, send a PM to a moderator rather than complain in the forums. And don't post irrelevant sexist images. If we dislike it, we can start our own site and forum.

;) Well said and fair comments guys, thank you.(when are you starting your own site !)

Zooo 'campaign' was a loose adjective describing my intentions, not one that you can or indeed must adhere to.

Quote: dellas @ February 12 2012, 1:13 PM GMT

Thankyou Allan, how refreshing to hear a sensible comment instead of the usual cowardly copycat banter. I am not giving up in this campaign to rid this place of misogynist nasty and crude contributers'.

Why?

Who has asked for this campaign?

Or have you decided to just enforce your values on everyone else?

Or are we saying before you come along with your values, everyone hated the BCG?

Quote: dellas @ February 12 2012, 1:13 PM GMT

I know there are other BCG members who agree, I want them to help me stop those deliberately offensive people from repeatedly ruining a serious discussion.

Ergo there are also people who disagree, but these don't count?

Quote: dellas @ February 12 2012, 1:13 PM GMT

If we want this platform to become successful we have to set standards of decorum to display thoughts on all aspects that concern us.

So you ARE saying that before you came along with your values that the site was 'unsuccessful'?

Quote: dellas @ February 12 2012, 1:13 PM GMT

That others set themselves up to deliberately deride or cheapen a members opinion is not clever, and a form of abuse.

You mean the people who use the forums to enjoy themselves and converse with others, and seem to enjoy the conversations and banter? Is the forum not for everyone then? Only people who meet your standards?

I will try again to clarify this matter with the 'moderators' I really do believe this website is fantastic and a great place for writers and general comedy enthusiasts, and there is opportunity for criticism/ fun.

And on one point I can agree on, this is a fantastic website and it's the people who make it ALL the people.

Please don't think you are speaking on behalf of all the women here. As a feminist, I find it offensive when it's used to troll a board for the sole purpose of getting attention.

Do please feel free to post a list of all the people you feel have actually asked you to speak for them since you are so convinced you are. I am certain all the women, like myself, are 100% capable of speaking for themselves.

Dellas, good web hosting can be had for about $5 per month. Creating a forum takes a few mouse clicks and about 2 minutes. Please start your own forum and leave the rest of us misogynists behind. We like it here.

You can get a free board at phpBB.

To sum up...

Hi fives all round.

I think we should be careful we don't allow a members crass member make the rest of us slip into becoming overbearing.

Unintentionally.

If some one has been crass and insulting to a large group of people perhaps we should leave them to their own devices.

They might even think better of their actions given time and patience.

Someone called me a misogynist and I told her to get lost. It's not typical behavior for me but I don't consider it "overbearing."
