The people who must be really crapping themselves are the Labour party. If the Scots do vote yes then they will lose all those seats.

Interesting that the opinion polls say that there is a greater percentage of people in England in favour of it than in Scotland.

The people who should be "crapping it" are the people of the UK. It is the Union that made us all. In a Chaos Theory kinda way nothing you see, use or own today would have been possible without the Union between the two nations 300 years ago.

The most difficuilt task the Scots have in reality is persuading the rest of the UK we aren't all English-bashing bigots, in fact very few of us are. Although we do sometimes like to pull the little Englanders legs just like them English often take the piss out of us Scots.

But methinks them Nationalists (on both sides) are taking all the fun out of the banter.

Then again Nationalism is right up there with religious fundamentalism (all mental and nae fun) when it comes to a proper bo sense of humour and genuine tolerance between folks.

Excellent article lofthouse. Made me laugh despite the author's occassional confusion between Nationalists and Scots. ;)

Do you think it really is a majority of Scots against independence? I hope you're right, but it's terribly tricky to gauge.

Opinion polls are suggesting that the more people that are exposed to the Tartan BNP's arguements the less we all want a divorce from the UK partnership.

The SNP are back-peddling from their previously entrenched position of having a fair and simple yes or no vote.

The SNP are now demanding the right to rig our (UK) votes to suit themselves.

But then again monocultures are as monocultures do.

Interesting stuff, how will Scotland finance itself? We have used all the oil so what is the economic forecast for the future ? What can Scotland export? apart from wonderful whiskey, and the tourism trade.

I mean, independence will be tough.

'Whiskey' is Irish, dellas. Angry I think you mean 'whisky' ;)

The fact is, both sides are making contrary assertions and backing their assertions up with with alleged facts. It's impossible to know who to believe. As for vote-rigging - they're all at that too - I'm damned if I want somebody who's left the country and may never return, deciding what sort of place I'll be spending the rest of my life in.

I intend to bury my head firmly in the sand until a couple of months before I have to vote. We'll see how things stand at that point. Politicans of all colours make me sick. The only sensible thing to be, is a floating voter.

Good point caller. Who would actually own the UK's joint assets if the union is split. Who gets British Petroleum or British Telecom for example when Britain no longer exists?

For the SNP the argument has rarely been about economics it is more often than not about race. They have put all their eggs into the same anti-English monoculturist basket.

Therefore it has been encouraging to note that recent polls show support for Independence, never strong in the first place, has dive-bombed by over 10%.

The shareholders!

The shareholders!

Indeed these are not national companies.

But the costs associated with a break up and dividing up of assests are too horrific to think off.

Did I mention I saw Alex Salmond at the cinema yesterday?

Not the end of the world if Britain seperates (and they could take the Falklands and Ulster with them) but I think both countries would be poorer for it.

Salmon is an effective operator and I can see why many Scots saw him as an alternative to an entrenched Labour Party. But he seems to have had about six role models for Scotland to my knowledge in the past few years. And the endless depth of pettiness for nationalist point scoring is beginning to resemble Nigel Farage.

We'd still have Wales and Northern Ireland who want to stay with us - like Gibraltar and the Falklands.

The more we let the SNP natter on the less likely the Union will be broken up. He's already managed to reduce support for independence, never strong in the first place, by over 10%.

Salmonds latest claim is that an independant Scotland would be the 5th richest country in the world (GDP per Capita) as opposed to the UK's current place of 15th.

Really Alex? I've just cum. Twice.

Meanwhile back in the real world just because the UK team may be currently one or two goals up in the GDP Cup thanks to the Scots in the team, doesn't necessarily mean we Scots must now grab the ball and run away.

Real life (and football) doesn't quite work like that. I reckon that all of us UK oiks have to learn to share all the glory and all the shite with equal fortitude.
