Sitcom 2012

OK yes, another plug for the one day 'How NOT to write Sitcom' course. It's nearly full but there are 2 places left on...

Saturday January 7th.

Please do contact me for details. Start your year with a bang, stop whinging online and WRITE that sitcom that will NOT make you MILLIONS nor get you out of your day job HELL, but WILL make you feel a whole lot better about THINGS IN GENERAL. (E.g. Prozac/NyQuil over-usage)

Also, my sitcom writing website will be launched very soon - on which I shall include a blog where we can all discuss sitcoms in depth.

And for the readers among you - look up 'How a writer Dies'. Just published on Kindle.

Enough plugging.

Marc, I've just read your book and found it very informative. Sure, it won't turn me into a great sitcom writer, but at least now I know how to write one.

Park Bench is a lovely man. May dogs never wee on your legs and tramps never soil themselves on your slats. May lover's entwine on you, oh benchy bench.

I'd say that I was currently reading the 'other' one, but I'm not ready for marriage just yet.

Hey, I'm new here. Care to talk at me, plugging your course/book further? I am young with money to burn.

Mmm. Money to burn. Younnggg Arrgggg.

OK. My website WILL be up soon, but I am the script editor/consultant for this site and have critted many thousands of scripts (plus writing a few of my own). I wrote a book for A&C BLack last year called How NOT to write a sitcom. This year I am even more actively going to help young writer's (and old) to avoid the many easy mistakes so when you try to sell something to a producer it looks like writer wrote it - and one who is on the ball.

So, there is the script consultancy and this course How NOT to write Sitcom.

On Saturday (off Bond St) we will (in a small group) analyse your script, your concept and your character and plotting skills (or lack of them). We will take it all apart and put it back together. Information is power.

Then we will have a light beverage

If interested drop me a line on marcgblake@hotmail.co.uk

The next course is March 3rd, but there is one space available this Saturday. Console

Hi Marc, aspiring writer here (yeah, another one!), looking forward to seeing your website.

Cheers,

Toby

Went to this last Saturday - decided to go on Friday evening and Marc said there was a space so along I went.

Lots of very useful information, critical analysis of what we'd taken.

All I've got to do now is rewrite it from scratch - a plot was one of the things he said was missing.

I would recommend it to everyone trying to write Sitcom.

OK. It's up

Aye Theng yew.

Marc, you've got yourself a cool website - I'm going to bookmark it.

However, one slight niggle about your latest blog. Let's forget about the eBook saga. Let's talk punk rock. You seriously only liked The Clash and the rest of the music was crap? Sorry, but that's just nonsense. Most of the original punk bands still sound good and fresh. Come on - you've got to like the Buzzcocks, The Damned, Ruts, SLF, The Angelic Upstarts, The Dickies, 999, Slaughter & The Dogs and X-Ray Spexs? And don't forget the talented 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation punk bands. They were far superior to the New Wave scene.

I agree about the Eighties being poor. But the Pixies and The Smiths were excellent.

I'm with you on the Smith's and 'certain' punk elements (not Sham 69 et al). Elvis Costello good - if he counts. And yes, the following wave, but they WERE new wave. Ahh. BBC London is playing one of my fave bands of the time now. XTC.

Gonna write a blog thing about music. I wanted to refer to the last ten years but they too appear to have been a bit crappy. Who is at fault for this? (Don't say Cowell)

And I'm going to throw in Billy Bragg.

Here's my final post on the music subject, Marc. Yes, I will give you Elvis Costello. Plus Blondie and Squeeze.

I don't really have the time or inclination to keep track of the latest bands so I've no idea if the current music scene is hot or completely dire.

I have, though, recently discovered some pretty cool stuff: Fight Like Apes, The Vaccines and the Pierces. Will I still be listening to that trio in five years' time? It's unlikely. Will I still be listening to punk in five years' time? Most definitely. I believe the bands you enjoy as a kid/teenager will always have a bigger impact.

Looking forward to your music blog. Although I would prefer one on the sitcom genre.

Next How NOT to write sitcom workshop is Saturday May 12th. Central London.
