British Comedy Guide

Hello everyone - A Dummie Brummie here.

Hello people. I have been reading this website for a long time now but only decided to join the forum today.

A bit about me. I am a student from Birmingham. I am a University student studying Building Surveying. I write endless reports which bores me to death! It was only then when I questioned myself. Why do I do it? I don't enjoy it. So why don't I write comedy? Something funny which I will enjoy.

I have wrote a number of comedy sketches to date and will continue to do so. I realise that this industry takes a lot of patience and commitment. There is no doubt in my mind that I will become a success.

Getting your foot in the door is clearly the hard part. I live where Frank Skinner was bought up. Im not sure if he still lives around here. - Maybe I could get friendly with him!

Cheers for reading.
Richard.

Welcome Richard. Stick some sketches up in critique and we will tell you if you are going to be a success young fella-me-lad :P

What up, son!

Wave Hi & Welcome
& yes, let's see some hilarious sketches - we won't nick them - honest mister...

Welcome fellow inhabitant of the greatest one of the best probably not the worst city in England.

Greetings Bolt.

Do you not have a drama/comedy group at Uni ? That's where many of our countries top comedy acts started off.

Good lucky anyhoo. Rolling eyes

Hi there, what comedy do you like?

Wave

Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy sunning it up in a lonely place called Liskeard.

I study at Wolverhampton University and they don't offer much in terms of comedy. The closest they offer to comedy writing is Shakespeare and that really isn't my thing. Plus, I've got one year left so I may aswell stick it out just to use as a backup incase all else fails.

I love most forms of comedy really. I am mainly influenced by sketches such as Little Britain, Bruiser, That Mitchell and Webb look etc. I am also a huge fan of successful sitcoms - Only Fools (Obviously), Auf Wiedersehen Pet.....Not forgetting Coogan/Brydon. There are far too many to name.

Currently my work has only been drafted so I won't post anything up just yet until it has been looked at thoroughly. I have what I think are some great potential sitcom ideas (Very early days though) and various sketch ideas - Leaning towards the absurd/surreal genre.

The writers wall is a daunting place. It's been in my way a few times today already. Sleep is the best cure, a fresh set of batteries can do no harm.

P.S. - As I am new to the site, I haven't really had chance to get to know who is who on this forum. Do we have any successful writers on here? Or are we all just a bunch of amateurs dreaming of success...?

Hello there Richard! Glad you joined us, welcome aboard. :)

There are a few mildly successful names around, and the odd genuine comedy professional, but most people are either fans or amateurs.

Those who lurk without posting, however, is an entirely different matter...!
