BCG Twins Page 4

An interesting thread, and if I may, I would like to say a couple of things.
As a relative newcomer I have definitely sensed a clique culture on these boards (and I say this with absolutely no criticism or judgement ).
This is inevitable in almost, if not all internet forums.
It happened on the BBC Get Writing & later the More Writing site, and the more we met up for drunken/fun-filled weekends, the clique-ier it got.
Newcomers (I detest the word newbie*), though invariably greeted with a friendly welcome, were regarded by some 'clickies' as a kind of non-entity until they had 'earned' their acceptance into the fold, though this was never acknowledged on a conscious or unconscious level.
People are people. It happens in real life and there's no way it won't happen on forums where it's so much easier for some clickies to be churlish or even downright rude to newcomers from within the safety of a clique. And that certainly doesn't apply to all clickies.

On a personal level, you can find most of my posts by the 0 replies. I can only assume...
a)Inadvertently upset someone
b)Made a statement too opinionated for a newbie*
c)Nothing of interest to say
d)Crap work - not worth acknowledging

I expect c & d to be 'quoted' along with a 'piss off' smilie!!

So sorry to drag up a subject that's obviously been thrashed out before - just had to get that off my bosom.
Seriously, just here to share some comedy with like-minded souls.

Peace. Love. Laughs.

BCG's twin is Chortle!

Only joking!

Chortle is much better!

;)

Shirley, do you mean on critique or generally? Because loads of stuff gets completely ignored in critique :)
And now I come to think of it, loads of what I post doesn't get replied to *sadly packs away the BCG clique t-shirts she hopefully and lovingly made*

It's lovely having you here Shirley, and you certainly contribute- I think maybe lots of people join and then when they don't immediately get responded to, feel cliqued out, not realising that the majority of posts are chatting into the ether.

But then personally I can't be arsed with posts and posters who purely self-promote, which they're entitled to do, but it's not what I'm here to see and I won't feel responsible for their not returning by not encouraging it.

I think it just takes time. A lot of the time new members don't get much response because you never know if they're genuine or how long they're going to stick around. I think when you see they're genuinely interested in comedy and not bad people, then you start interacting with them more. Stick with it.

Treat that as a blessing. I used to wander into Critique, make constructive criticisms - six pages later I'm being called a c**t and then Aaron closes the thread.

So now I don't even bother. As for noobs, if they have something interesting / funny to contribute, then everyone will respond. But if they're just giving us the equivalent of a Facebook update - then honestly, they can do one, off a bridge.

RC and I were probably separated at birth. I think sootyj may have been our illegitimate sibling ...

Both flattered and disturbed.

I'm untwinnable. Cool

What you chose to dream about is entirely up to you.

Half a year I've been here and there are still loads of people who've never interacted with me. I was sticking up for BCG, but I've changed my mind. CLIIIIIIQUE

I was just reffering to the fact that you are both untwinnable, thanks to your...unique qualities. Unique, yeah.

I know what you were referring to, but we both know I'm untwinnable. Cool

Hi AJGO
Thanks for your reply.
In general I suppose - you would have to look through my profile posts!. I fully realise I haven't built up relationships yet, but the board attracted me because I felt it would be common ground to mingle with people of a light-hearted nature, to have a mutual giggle over silly bits of writing, to find out about opportunities etc etc. I'm not here to self promote & - like you - don't like the random peeps who post up a video for crit then don't even bother to thank you when you comment. Must say though, I've been a bit shocked at the comments some genuine new posters have received about their work, though I know they're in the minority. Insults without constructive crit must be devasting for someone who's worked hard - even if it is crap! It makes you wonder how many would be excellent members have been put off coming back again. I do know the vast majority here are just nice people who've got to know each other over time, and like I was trying to say, that's normal. I just feel that any forum that looses it's 'openess' is in danger of eventual self destruct - I've seen it happen.
Cheers AJGO & Thanks again

Not guilty - hate facebook. I'll try dig out something interesting/funny.
Cheers RC :)

And sincere apologies for high-jacking Roo's thread.

You're very welcome Shirley. I'm really looking forward to your first interesting / funny post. ;)

(just hang in there and post loads and loads, eventually Marc P will send you a PM with details on how to join the clique, including the BCG secret handshake and decoder ring)
