Elderly ladies from the travelling community knocking on your door asking if you want to buy those useless wooden clothes pegs
Quote: DaButt @ January 28 2012, 2:16 PM GMTI haven't seen one of these in decades:
Because cattle used to eat discarded ones & do lots of internal damage & they were banned. Modern pull tabs stay attached to the can or the large top of the can.
Quote: Renegade Carpark @ January 28 2012, 2:37 PM GMTNo, they used to collect old bits of furniture and housewares that people used to no longer want. They've been replaced by the council and recycling centres.
They are still around but use lorries now not horse & cart. & they tend to just pick up stuff they think is discarded without bothering to ring a bell or ask permission.
White dog poo was caused by bones, that's all some dogs had to eat, too much calcium.
'Kershaws' shell-fish salesmen in pub and Salvation Army people collecting in the pub.
Gollywogs.
Kids with elastoplast on their specs.
'Penny for the Guy' around bonfire night.

Oh, a few pints and a packet of winkles or, if I didn't look at them while I ate them, mussels. Loads of vinegar!

How were they served? Like a packet of crisps or a cone of chips? I'm imagining both.

They'd bloody bite you if you didn't eat them quickly enough !
I miss seafood. It was bloody lovely. Occasionally I go and lick a fishmonger, which still counts as a veggie diet, right?
