It's fair enough to mention that being such a public figure he shouldn't have used that word. But is it any far different from another of us calling each other an idiot or crazy? The word "Mong" had lost it's original meaning until someone pointed out it was a baaad word. Now everyone associates it with that again.
In the same way Yid, Nigger, Paki or whore never lose their strength.
Except women, asians, Jews can make some claim that hate crime against them is starting to abate. The same can not be said of disability hate crime.
And the way he expressed it wasn't some clever ironic joke. It was used to mock someone who had learning disabilities.
