But not shooting?

Concealed handguns are allowed and I've carried there on occasion, but I'm sure they'd consider gunfire to be excessive noise and would follow their standard policy of ejecting offenders after a warning from the manager.

I can't remember, are there any laws in Texas about being intoxicated whilst carrying guns? Because last time I was at the Draught House I got tore up!

The law is very vague. The smart thing to do is to avoid carrying while you're intoxicated.

I think it boils down to this: if you do something stupid and are found to be carrying while drunk, you're in big trouble. If you are drinking a beer and shoot an armed madman in the middle of a shooting spree, you're a hero.

I'm starting to see why people feel the need to carry a piece when any drunk in their vicinity could be packing.

A couple things to consider:

1) Public intoxication is a crime that will land you in jail. I can't remember the last time I saw a drunk out on the public streets.

2) People who hold concealed handgun licenses are much, much less likely to commit a crime. They're the good guys. If I remember correctly, there was exactly one murder conviction out of something like 500,000 Texans with licenses last year. Cops breathe a sigh of relief when they pull over a vehicle and they are alerted that the owner has a CHL because they know he's not a threat.

How about if you silence your shooter or bring a crossbow?

Both are still quite noisy but I guess it's a step in the right direction.

A big piece of wood with nails banged through it, but wrapped in cotton wool?

In the UK they search you're bags now to prevent you smuggling goodies in.

I thought taking a CCW into any place that sells alcohol is illegal? Might be different in Texas though, a lot of things are.

It does make me laugh when some Texan's go on about the worrying number of Mexicans invading the state, maybe they're worried history will repeat itself. After all, when Mexico owned it, the lazy, immigrant honky population became so great, they declared independance.

;)

How about if you silence your shooter...?

The technical term is suppress. You can't actually silence a firearm, though you can limit it's rapport by using a supressor and sub-sonic ammo.

You know bullets with the steel bit in them, do they have a proper name? Or does it depend on the company that makes them?

RC you sound like Clarkson there!

Did you read that in "Bravo poo queero" by Andy McAss_grab?

It is? 6th Street was always full of drunk college kids when I was there. That was pre 9/11 though.

It's legal in Texas unless the place derives more than 50% of its income from the sale of alcohol. In that case, they are required to post a large 51% sign at the entrance to warn patrons that it's illegal to bring a firearm inside.

As for Mexicans, most Texans that I've met don't seem to have a problem with them. Hell, half my neighbors are Mexican.

Not sure what you're talking about. There are shotgun shells with steel BBs instead of lead that are required because birds eat the lead pellets because they think they're seeds. All the handgun ammo that I'm aware of uses lead shells.

That's one of those situations like Vegas and New Orleans where it's seen as part of the attraction and the cops turn a blind eye to a simple stagger. Piss in public, get loud or obnoxious and they'll judiciously decide to apply the public intoxication and open container laws in a heartbeat.
